The Rest of Us Just Live Here is a book that characterises people who would usually be the "background" characters of another regular novel, while the background characters are the ones who would usually be the "main" characters. This is such an interesting concept that drove me into reading this, and like The Knife of Never Letting Go, I was not disappointed. Books like these that switch the cards are such refreshers and the ones that stand out to me in the long run. Patrick Ness does a fantastic job at accurately making these characters feel real, humane and very relatable which makes you feel more connected with them. I certainly felt like I had a connection to these fictional characters that I would never be able to actually interact with obviously. I was hooked from the start and it made me wonder if stories with characters who are completely different from real life humans would be better if the actual "typical" characters of those stories had light shone on them more frequently, in genres like fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian ect.. Although I know not everyone feels this way—some people enjoy stories with heavy action and exciting characters that do things we would never be able to do. If you're into that, I wouldn't suggest this as it would definitely bore you. But I like both sides of the spectrum so I did enjoy this.

Anywho, I had a great time with this book. And I'm looking forward to reading more of Patrick Ness's work. He's got such a diverse catalogue of stories so I have no idea what to expect, which makes me even more excited :))
