All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks
5.0
This book touched my spirit in ways I can’t even describe. I have never left a book with this feeling. bell hooks amazes me in the way she writes. Everything she wrote made me reanalyze and rethink how I envisioned love. I truly believe I’m stepping away from this book a better person which is insane but still awe inspiring. One of my many favorite quotes of this book is, “The light of love is always in us, no matter how cold the flame. It is always present, waiting for the spark to ignite, waiting for the heart to awaken and call us back to the first memory of being the life force inside a dark place waiting to be born—waiting to see the light.” Rest in peace bell hooks and I know from this book that you truly lived a life full of love and a life where you weren’t fearful of death but instead accepted it as just a part of life that we can’t change.

Moral of the story: ALL men are trash emphasis on the ALL and women deserve the world even when they kill men on the side for a little razzle dazzle.

This book tore my heart into little bitty pieces then put it back together multiple times but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy every second of it. SO MANY EMOTIONS WRAPPED UP INTO ONE BOOK
The Eid Gift: An Adam and Zayneb Story by S.K. Ali

I love seeing Zayneb and Adam happy and in love. The love they have for each other is just so pure and intense. Look up soulmates in the dictionary and you’ll seem them. Such a sweet ending for these two lovebirds.

Jenn Bennet has this gift that even when you read her books for the first time it almost feels like your re reading one of your favorite books. Very much a comfort read even on your first read. This book just had the makings of such a cute read. The forced proximity with the camping extravaganza was done SO WELL and everything they had to go through while unpacking why their friendship ended. I really do believe childhood friends to lovers to enemies back to lovers is the superior trope. The miscommunication had Zorie and Lennon in a chokehold OMG but what do I expect at this point. They were so aggravating at times with their miscommunication but I was rooting for them so hard. They were just so cute together and their chemistry was very well written especially for a ya contemporary. I do feel Zorie’s dad islamphobia and homophobia should have been addressed better instead of glossed over. That doesn’t take away how much I really liked this book I felt the 400+ pages were actually necessary to tell the story. By the end of book I wanted even more which is saying a lot because I think most ya contemporary books should be 300 pages. Jenn Bennet is becoming one of my auto read authors I trust her so much. Her books are Spring/Summer comfort perfection.

Sadly to say this romance didn’t sweep me off my feet. I felt like throughout the whole book that January was giving her all into the relationship and Gus was giving nothing. I wanted him to be or TO JUST TRY to be honest and openly communicate his feelings and I just felt like he just rarely did that. And the times that he did he pulled away from her quickly after. I never felt giddy or swoon worthy about this pairing. There were multiple parts where I couldn’t help but to get angry with how they just wouldn’t talk to each other. They frustrated me to no end and I feel like it was mostly Gus. Both of them were scared to fall in love again but I just felt like January at least tried to open up and Gus never really let her in fully to his heart or mind. Throughout this book I felt that Gus gave nothing, January cried, and then they got back together without truly dissecting what went wrong and the problems in their relationship. Even up to the end with their cute big gesture makeup scene and the epilogue I still didn’t buy into it. It’s so crazy because I felt like I believed their love story more 150 pages into this book than when I was 300 pages into this book. I was actually more interested with January dealing with her grief due to her father dying, finding out more about his double life, and her friendship with Shadi. The thing is I don’t dislike this book but I felt that I liked other aspects more than the romance which was the main marketing factor of this book. For goodness sake I swooned more when January and Shadi had a cute friendship moment saying I love you to each other than any of the romance parts of this book. That just says it all.
The Girl Before by Rena Olsen

I was very into this book from the first page but for some reason the author revealed the entire plot in the middle and that left me bored all the way into the end. It became less of a thriller and more just a story about a woman realizing her whole life was a lie.

THIS BOOK WAS HILARIOUS! A lot of books that claim to be rom coms are always lacking in the comedy aspect but the times I actually laughed out loud during this book was plenty. I really loved the pure wackiness of the enemies to lovers and the way Jaclyn and Kadan kept running into each other was chef’s kiss. A really cute rom com that delivers in under 200 pages.

I think I was expecting something more lighthearted and fun based off the first book in the series but the author decided to take another direction with this story. It was definitely more serious because of the story centering around unexpected pregnancy which is one of my least favorite tropes. The main protagonist of this book, Joia, was likeable but I felt that she wasn’t as captivating as Jaclyn. I also found Teddy to be a little bit corny and I can never find dating an influencer appealing. Joia and Teddy never actually talked through any of their problems just made up with grand gestures which I found odd. I did like the story and I do have to give props to Miss Jones for making me like a story with some of my least favorite tropes.

I really enjoyed this couple and how they felt just meant to be. Jenna and Levi’s companionship just felt really passionate and intense. I loved seeing them going out on dates and traveling because I feel we didn’t get that with the other sisters. They were really cute to me and them reconnecting over and over again even when they wanted to push each other away felt like fate. We rarely see relationships in romance books where a “usual” committed relationship is not forced upon characters during their love story. I love how the author didn’t feel the need to make sure all the couples at the end of series were married that kind of irks me in romance books. The epilogue was so heartwarming seeing all these couples flourish and in love. Binge reading this series in a day was so much fun and it felt like watching a Black anthology rom com movie.
