Fear The Reapers by Jessa Halliwell

Imagine waiting 80% of the book for the first sex scene and reading with your own two eyes the line "I did as I was told and was rewarded with his thick, velvety shaft, stuffing me to the hilt in one powerful thrust."

This book was incredibly fast paced but also not… idk how to explain. I do feel like the Gods & Monsters series is far better and I was a bit let down by this one, but still entertaining enough to make it to the end at least and I can't say that about a lot of books so.

This author said “I want my MMC to be like Zade Meadows!” But then forgot every single redeeming quality necessary to forgive a morally grey MMC for all the morally grey shit he does. It becomes clear about 10% in that Altas and Ivy's stalker are the same person, but Atlas & I were apparently the only ones who knew that because Miss Ivy sure couldn't put the pieces together.

Can we take a second to just truly THINK about the tagline on the cover? LMAO.
Basically, Cassidy is Preston’s girlfriend. They break up because Preston is a tittybaby who only cares about himself since they left for college. It’s summer break after their freshman year and Preston’s dad, Greg, a doctor, overhears Cassidy break up with Preston and goes “wow now is my chance, I have wanted her ever since they went to Prom together” (I’m not lying.) Literally 5 mins after her and Preston breakup, she’s fucking his dad. They end up getting together & falling in love and promise to tell Preston but Preston walk in on them fucking and makes his dad choose between him and Cassidy. Ofc, Greg chooses Preston, but Cassidy is irritated that the Spoiled Lil Boy has gotten his way once again (Also kinda fair tho). Cassidy gets appendicitis and is rushed to the ER. Who is the surgeon on call? Greg. She’s like “f*ck no ur not touching me” and her mom is like “Cassidy be real pls” and Greg is like “Cassidy if ur appendix ruptures u could die” and so he does the surgery and then Preston I guess got some sense fucked into him because he’s like “Cassidy I’m sorry I wronged you, also I cheated on you but anyway, I guess if you wanna bone my dad that’s fine.”
The plot? Not very good. A rip off of Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. The sexual tension? Off the MF charts.

I just barely made it past all the Irish slang in this book bro.
Basically girlie (and no, I can’t tell you her name because I couldn’t even pronounce it) lives in a drug house with her dad and is constantly SA’d by his “friends”. Desperate to belong, she joins her friends on a heist and ends up being the only one to get caught, as they leave her behind. As a part of her probation, she has to work at Conor’s almost-bankrupt tattoo parlor. Conor’s a piece of work and doesn’t want to do this but it comes with a government grant. Basically, Conor tells us the whole book how he’s trash and doesn’t deserve the girl and there’s literally no reason why he’s saying this. Like he thinks there is but he needs to grow up. Luckily, girlie tells him the same and leaves him. Then he grovels for her to come back. Happily ever after. There was one scene that broke my heart a bit where just as soon as girlie finally bought Conor’s trust, her lil friends broke into the tattoo shop and robbed it and framed her and I was heartbroken but Conor knew it wasn’t her immediately - like didn’t even consider it despite her past - and found her busking her artwork in the street trying to make back the money. :(

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m intrigued. It’s classified as a dark romance, but I wouldn’t consider it that, really. Mainly because of the "romance" portion of that genre name, because no one can deny it's definitely dark. However, I will say that MMC is quite literally the most polite r*pist like?? It's really really interesting getting into his mind because it seems like he genuinely doesn't understand why FMC is so upset with him, despite the fact that he's r*ping her.

It finally happened... I finally read an SJ Tilly book that I didn't mesh with :( I was willing to look past Latte Darling's... interesting title because it had tropes I really liked, and I LOVED that book (yes I know I read them backwards). This one.... I couldn't get with the title OR the story.
Also them fornicating in a tent when there is a whole field trip of children nearby is kinda.... icky.

Bro I was so done lol. But I did finish the series. Technically there’s a fourth book but it’s a novella including their wedding but I do not care.
