This was fun. It didn’t do anything special for me personally, but I’m never going to not enjoy a paranormal romance story having been raised by Buffy.

There’s reasonable critique surrounding TJ Klune and this series specifically from him. This isn’t getting into that but if you’re interested, it’s very easily Google-able.

I really liked this one, just not as much as THITCS. Nothing brings me more joy than the children on this island and they were easily my favorite part of the book. I almost wish we didn’t have the adult POV and were just following the kids, even though it would lose a lot of the plot 🤣. I’ve gotten emotional at all the TJ Klune books I’ve read so far, but this time it didn’t come until the author’s note when he said he’d like to be known as the anti-JKR, someone who everyone’s stories can feel safe with. I love that.

This was cute. The pacing wasn’t my favorite, but I enjoyed everything else about it!

There were some good nuggets of wisdom in here but nothing that I think will change my life profoundly

These are just so fun. They’re so unserious and I haven’t yet felt like the stakes are too high that I’m worried or anxious while reading. There are serious topics mentioned, don’t get me wrong, and maybe not everyone will appreciate the lightness with which they’re handled…but here, it works for me. I too wish we could just cut off the heads of rapists and move on with life, and that the pain and trauma would be solved with a loving found family. I absolutely love the new characters we got in this one and I can’t wait for the next book to see where we go!
Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted by Suleika Jaouad

I think this was a great, well-written memoir that I’m sure other people have much more thorough thoughts on. I felt myself questioning Suleika’s decisions and actions often, but that’s only because she was so vulnerable and honest to display the real and ugly truth of what living with sickness can do to anyone (but especially a 22 year old).

I enjoyed almost every single thing about this. It’s You’ve Got Mail but with demigods and fantastical elements and great commentary on grief while living life to its fullest. It literally followed scenes from You’ve Got Mail word-for-word sometimes, the first few times it was almost creepy that I knew the next line before I realized what was happening. My one complaint is that it strayed from You’ve Got Mail just in time for Mercy to be upset at Hart for the third act breakup. I get it, but as a You’ve Got Mail fanatic, one of my favorite parts is when Kathleen’s only response to finding out the truth is “I wanted it to be you.” To give me so much faithful following only to rip it away right then felt like a personal attack and unfortunately sits as my single regret in the reading experience.
