This story feels quite fragmented. It feels like it had a lot of important things to say but it was due at 11:59 and it was currently 11:40. I did have an odd reading experience, however, I had an ebook version, but then I found it on audiobook in my library's online collection, and decided to listen to it as I read along. The narrator was fun but as someone who's still trying to get into audiobooks it wasn't really my thing, so halfway through I gave up on the audio and just read the ebook. I feel like that took away from my reading experience, but I also feel like a three star rating is justifiable enough. I've always been someone that continues with a series no matter what I thought of the first book, but I think I won't be participating in the rest of this one, and am upset I didn't like it more.

"So you gotta wonder. Do they ban books because they see danger in their authors, or because they see themselves in their villains?"

This was the first book to make me tear up with joy upon finishing it. This is something for anyone who is even remotely interested in it, the history, the themes within, and college students during times of political unrest.

I was pleasantly surprised to find poems about the moon. And, for some reason, surprised to realize that yes, a lot of these are just fragments, some are one word...

About a hundred pages in, I realized I don't like fantasy, but I kept reading because I didn't not like it yet and The Little Mermaid was one of my favorite movies as a child. This was the first YA fantasy romance sub plot that didn't make me cringe or roll my eyes, the characters were great and their relationship progression felt genuine and realistic. The main plot was solid but a little hard to follow at times but I think that was just me, and the world building was fun! This will most likely be the last fantasy book I read for a while and I'm glad I got to end here.

Listen, poetry is subjective. I am in no position to say what it and isn't poetry, but I feel like a lot of the people that do are the ones that shouldn't. But this resonated with me, and I liked it. I discovered the author in #poetry, a documentary by Ariel Bissett on YouTube about Instagram poetry/ poets, and I was so captivated by Chisala I immediately looked up her books. The one mentioned in the documentary was Soft Magic, and I had it in my cart until I noticed Nectar, and after looking at the blurb Soft Magic was replaced. Why am I telling this story? I don't know, but I do know that this is the third book of poetry I've read and I'm happy it was something that I could find parts of myself in, even if it was a little obvious some of these poems were Instagram captions.

I liked this so much more than I thought I would! I didn't want to read this for such a long time because the ratings put me off, but eventually my curiousity was piqued, I obtained an amazon giftcard, it was delivered to my doorstep, and I was reading it a couple weeks later.

As with any book I enjoyed that most did not, I tell people who are debating whether or not to read it to go in with an open mind, no expectations. Give the book a clear shot and I think you'll like it.
