Listen, poetry is subjective. I am in no position to say what it and isn't poetry, but I feel like a lot of the people that do are the ones that shouldn't. But this resonated with me, and I liked it. I discovered the author in #poetry, a documentary by Ariel Bissett on YouTube about Instagram poetry/ poets, and I was so captivated by Chisala I immediately looked up her books. The one mentioned in the documentary was Soft Magic, and I had it in my cart until I noticed Nectar, and after looking at the blurb Soft Magic was replaced. Why am I telling this story? I don't know, but I do know that this is the third book of poetry I've read and I'm happy it was something that I could find parts of myself in, even if it was a little obvious some of these poems were Instagram captions.
