This was like Acotar on crack. To put it lightly at least. I was searching for a free audiobook on Spotify when I ran across “Fae’s deception”. I have just gotten into the world of fae in the past couple months so I was immediately intrigued. Being in a book slump and having not listened to an audio book in years I thought this was just perfect. And well… it was very entertaining to say the least. I don’t think I have ever laughed so fun much at a book. Not really at the jokes told but more at the some of the most out of pocket dialogue I’ve heard in a book. It was so bad it was good. I found some of her human wants relatable but some of them I found to be just kind of annoying. Another thing I have found is a problem with other readers as well is her being a lovable clumsy naive girl one second and a defiant bad ass the next. This is the with collaboration book I have read. I just wish it was a little more cohesive. I noticed the rest of the series is only written by one of the authors so I wonder if the books will get better if I choose to continue with this series. Also, I got sick of everyone finding her human speech so “quirky and lovable”. Like what? Anyways, I’m forcing my best friends to listen to this book as well so I can talk about this wild story with someone. But, I would like to finish off with the statement I think this would make an amazing tv show. I don’t watch tv shows much and when I do it takes me months to finish them, but If this was a show I would binge it in less than a day 100%.

If you're looking a super cheesy y/a fae book that's pretty predictable, this will do it for you! To be fair, that's exactly what I was looking for. I listened to it on Spotify and the narrator was pretty decent!
The plot is very thorns and roses-esque and there's a bunch of pop culture references the quirky seemingly independent but forever saved by the man at her side fmc makes, a little cringe perhaps, but that made it kinda fun as well

It’s definitely a YA read- immaturity abound in the FMC. I am quitting this series.
left a lot to be desired
The books prologue was amazing. I loved it so much I was instantly in love .
But sadly the rest of the book did not live up to those expectations . I almost did not finish this book in 8 different locations .
The pacing is off. There are so many time skips it’s a wonder why the author didn’t just change the timeline .
The characters are pretty flat and one dimensions at most points . They feel like puppets instead of characters.
The author would really benefit from sitting down and taking the advice of “ show don’t tell. “. There were so many points where Brea just gets knocked out and then is told what happened; that it became annoying.
Most of the plot twists were to be expected and even when they were ‘ a surprised .’ When Brea ‘ falls in love ‘ by page 70. It’s truly nothing to blink at. Because of the bad pacing I really could not find myself to care if Brea survived or not .
Overall it was not a good read, it could be an alright book if the author went back and did some major character rewording , and rewriting.

Accidentally read this book again and thought it seemed vaguely familiar lol. Premise of the story is great I just didn't love the telling of it any more the second time around.
Listened to the audio book on my drives, definitely entertaining! Just a bit clunky at times but a fun story nonetheless.
Good concept, but very sloppy.
So, the beginning was.. kind of interesting.. she thought she was crazy. Had even spent time in an institution and was going back to school. Which is a decent start, but her headspace was so confusing and hard to grasp. The beginning of the book should suck you into that world. Make you wanna be there, this didn’t.
Then at the first palace, everything seems great. There is literally no hint that the palace is an evil place. It has to be mentioned multiple times.
And then the ending was.. kind of horrible.. she finds out who she really is, but also the other queens daughter was kidnapped... and it ends on a happy note.. it should have ended with Brea wanting to help fight to bring the daughter back home.
She is not a strong character at all and I feel that is a big reason why this book isn’t the greatest.
