This is the beginning of a pretty typical PNR. It's got some insta cheese, but sometimes that's exactly what I want from a book. I like the world that Kenyon has created, and although it's not going to win a Pulitiizer, it's a good vampire-esque novel.

So I have been in a reading slump lately and decided to visit one of my all time favorite authors to give me the pick me up that I am sorely in need of and man, did she not disappoint me. The first time around, I just gave a star rating and after re-reading this again, I feel more comfortable in writing an actual review. In this first-Dark-Hunter book we meet Kyrian of Thrace AKA Hunter and Amanda Devereaux. From the moment of their first meeting, by handcuffs, no less they are immediately attracted to each other. Kyrian is a Dark-Hunter who helps to destroy a race of vampires called Daimons that go after human souls and blood. He has been around some 2000 years and he chose to be a DH because of the way he was betrayed. Let's just say it was severe, painful and bloody awful what happened to him, and in my opinion, he deserved to enact a bit of vengeance on those that did this to him. Amanda on the other hand, has been given gifts since she was born, she has suppressed them because of an awful tragedy that happened in her teenage years. She thought she could live a life of a boring accountant but her huge supernatural family and now meeting Kyrian, dispel that notion. There is an awful Daimon after Kyrian and now Amanda, Kyrian becomes tasked with protecting her and destroying said Daimon. Amanda falls for Kyrian, hard, while Kyrian tries to walk away from his emotions towards her, as he feels it could bring nothing but both of them pain. In the end, justice prevails, Amanda lets her powers fly saves Kyrian and in turn Kyrian saves her. This books is filled with humor, sarcastic wit, action, and most important the power of forgiveness and true love. Kyrian and Amanda get their HEA! Yay! Lol. Now I have read all the books in this series and am pretty familiar with everyone in this book who we later read about in other books or even their very own books. I had a blast re-reading this and am paying even more attention now, then when I first started this series. 5 stars!!!!

This book was truly fantastic- a hot alpha that hides his pain with a caustic attitude and witty remarks, a strong empathetic heroine that breaks down his defenses, side characters you actually care about, a formidable enemy, an intriguing world, very steamy scenes, and lots of action!! Those that judged the series by Fantasy Lover really need to read this one, then judge whether you want to continue (although I still recommend reading that first, this second). I had intended to only read 2 of these per month with a group, but I won't be stopping!

"Arched a brow" was repeated so often, it was distracting and I couldn't stand it. Character development was poor so I didn't care about anyone. Towards the end of my attempt, I was using this audiobook to help me fall asleep quickly.

It wasn’t as good as I remember it, although I do feel love for Kyrian and Amanda because of the other books.

In this one, unlike Fantasy Lover, the story happens in a week(?) Or something like that. I know it's something I have to get used to if I wanna reread these books but still it bothers me.

I think this is the official first book for the dark hunters, is when they and a group of the characters of the others books are introduced. That meant a bunch of info dump, like A LOT. Or at least I felt it like that, seriously there were moments when one character just explained what something was to you. I don’t know, I just felt like there were others ways of explaining things.

Amanda is not my favorite main character from the series and it does bothers me that she went from wanting to have a normal and boring life, not wanting to do anything regarding her powers, wanting to marry a normal guy, etc. to be in love with a vampire in a week. I keep thinking the characters here get over things so quickly.

For Kyrian, he's fine… I guess, I don’t love him but I DO love his tragic backstory. That’s the best thing from this book. Just that. Well, actually no.

The best things from this book are: Nick Gautier and Acheron Parthenopaeus.

They are literally the best duo ever, I always loved their friendship even though in this book is barely there but still, I lived for the few moments when they mention each other.

And everytime Nick was there he just saved the moment from being boring, you don’t understand I love this man more than I love myself.

So, this book is great because of Kyrian's backstory, Nick and Ash.

I like the concept of this series and am going to give the next one another try, but I really disliked this book. So many problematic elements, and very few redeeming features.
