It's funny how different Amanda and Tabitha are. But it helped her find Kyrian so I'm happy.

Kyrian found Julian! So happy! Plus I got to see more of the twins! I love how much overlap there is between the books.

I can't believe that Kyrian's wife betrayed him like that! She is an evil whore! (But I'm a nice person and I feel bad calling her that.)

I'm really glad that Kyrian was able to overcome his fear that no one could love him and married Amanda. Poor Nick though. Now he has to find a new boss.

Kyrian's and Amanda's story is still one of my favorites from the Hunterverse. Really enjoyed following their journey to finding their HEA. And what an amazing journey it was, loved how strong and stoic Amanda is and how sarcastic Kyrian was at times and such a (moody) gentleman too. Truly enjoyable, loved it a lot.

I decided to give this book another shot after reading the Dark Hunter mangas and enjoying it quite a bit. I had read Fantasy lover a long time ago and don't know why I never continued on with the Dark Hunter series, but I am glad I am picking it back up. Kenyon is such an easy read that this book made for an enjoyable and easy escape.

I really liked the characters of Kirian and Amanda in the manga and they were just as adorable in the book. They had great chemistry and worked well off one another. The plot was a bit more twisted and less predictable than I expected which was a nice surprise. But of course in the end it was a romance novel and pretty mushy but hot.

I have already requested the next 2 books in the series from the library and can't wait to read them. Mainly because book 3 is about Zarek and I think he will turn out to be my fave character in this series. I am sure I wont like all the books in this series, but I hope that overall I enjoy it as a whole. Here goes nothing!

RE-READ 9/6/2022
UPDATED RATING (4 STARS -- SAME)

Having been about 11 years since I read this, I found that I forgot so much of the Dark-Hunter lore. Although I just re-read Fantasy Lover a few days ago, that book really doesn’t prep you on anything Dark-Hunter related. So this was a good refresher. I’m just surprised how much I forgot about!

I still enjoyed this one the second time around. Amanda and Kyrian are a fun couple. Love their sarcastic banter, especially in the beginning of the book.

I do find some of the lore here a bit of a bummer.

Like how they can’t work together. I forgot about that. And having just (nearly) finished re-reading and catching up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood books this was quite a contrast to that and kind of a bummer.

I also totally forgot that when they get their souls back they are mortal again. That’s kind of a bummer. I like the idea of them living together forever and also the guys continuing to fight alongside each other. Kinda sad that won’t be the case.

Overall though it’s a great book and great series. Looking forward to re-reading the next one!

ORIGINAL REVIEW (3/14/2011):
ORIGINAL RATING (4 STARS)

After enjoying the Dark-Hunter prequel, [b:Fantasy Lover|84136|Fantasy Lover (Hunter Legends, #1)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348332807l/84136._SY75_.jpg|2384], I was really looking forward to this book. But, I have to say, that going into this series, I wasn't really clear on what the series is about. The prequel doesn't really set up much about what Dark-Hunter's actually are, it just sets up the world and a connection to the first Dark-Hunter novel. That being said, I now understand and am really excited to keep reading!

This book is about Kyrian of Thrace (a.k.a. Hunter) and Amanda. Just to give you an idea, Kyrian was the Commander that fought alongside Julian (from [b:Fantasy Lover|84136|Fantasy Lover (Hunter Legends, #1)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348332807l/84136._SY75_.jpg|2384]) back when they were both mortal. So there's the connection that linked into this book. Also, Amanda is one of Serena's sisters, who was Grace's best friend in the first book.

In this book Amanda and Kyrian wake up chained to each other. Neither of them, Amanda especially, really knows who had kidnapped them, nor what their motives fully are. Once they find out, they are inexplicably tied to each other while they find a way to kill the person responsible so that they, as well as Amanda's family, will be safe again. They find out quickly, however, that they have a chemistry that is undeniable, and soon that chemistry and heat turns into more than just sexual lust, but becomes dangerous when their feelings for each other start to run deeper. It is forbidden for Kyrian to have a long term relationship, as a Dark-Hunter. But, not only that, he would have to watch her grow old and die while he is immortal. So their relationship is doomed from the start. However, there is always hope, and if anyone can find a way to be together, it's these two.

I absolutely loved these two as a couple! They were so adorable and playful with each other. I thought that not only their characters, but their relationship, was really well developed and realistic. I could really see the layers of Kyrian's heart being peeled back bit by bit. I also really liked Amanda. She was not an annoying heroine at all. She was very much likable and in most situations I really understood her actions and found her to be very smart and level-headed.

In case you're wanting to get into this series, know that what Dark-Hunter's are is explained in this book. But, to be frank, it's a type of vampire. This is kind of another setup where there are both good and rogue vampires, however, their origination is completely original and very interesting. It can be a bit confusing, but I think, given time reading the series, it will become more clear.

Overall, I loved the book. I love that she gives us very likable and relatable characters, smokin' hot sex, lots of action, and humor mixed in. That's got to be my favorite combination. On top of all that, even though the ending could be somewhat predicted, I hadn't figured out all the kinks, so there was some surprises there. I'm really excited about the next books and hearing from more of the characters we were introduced to in this one, but I'm curious how she will go about it given how the world is setup in that it's not really acceptable for Dark-Hunter's to be in long term relationships. It will be interesting to see how she works around that in future books.
