This book may have a bit of a YA vibe to it but I certainly don’t think it suffers for that - it’s a creepy, psychological trip of a story and it hangs around in your brain well after you have finished it. I don’t want to give any spoilers so will say that if you fancy something scary but not quite horror that you find yourself thinking about for a while give this book a go - you won’t be disappointed

okay i know the book is about the rule of threes but ripley is a mastermind with all the references to threes throughout the book, especially in eve’s part. amazing, loved it, was on the edge of my seat and i never would have guessed the ending

I received this book in a goodreads giveaway. Although I rarely dnf a book I might have if this had been a library book. The premise is certainly interesting with the urban legend/fate/destiny theme of a “rule of three”. However the execution really feel short for me. The first of the three main characters, Amy was not a character that was easy for me to connect with, despite her being in a position that should be easy to show sympathy for. However all of the drug focus and the annoying stereotypical trying to be a baddie teenager lingo was just not it for me. The character of Ila was a bit better developed and less irritating overall, but her section seemed to drag on too long without adding much value to the goal of solving the mystery of the rule of three. Then there was her totally out of left field gore scene… finally we have Eve, the last character. Her section was also one that went on a bit too long and included scenes that felt a bit unnecessary and led to an ending that just felt rushed and messy. The ending was unsatisfying, with a reveal of the “who” but none of the “why” that makes solving a mystery interesting. I think leaving some uncertainty would make sense to fit with the urban legend idea, but the way it was done here was a fail for me.

I absolutely loved this book. It was tense, clever, and kept me guessing. I loved the way the plot toed the line between curses, destiny, and murder - the ending and some of the reveals were so satisfying.

I received a pre publication from a Facebook group. This is a great intriguing book that keeps you guessing all the way through. Everytime you think you know what is going on you realise you don’t. Lots of twists & turns. The admit of detail in this book & links backwards & forwards. Highly recommend. Sam ripley is a pseudonym of a British crime write & I hope one day we find out who it is

This book starts out with a BANG- I was hooked immediately! There were some really neat and unique things this story did that I absolutely loved. Reading other reviews I see that a lot of people finish and end up very confused-I was too- but I think that's the point. The narrator tells you straight off that you have to pay attention and that clues are hidden everywhere. I think the idea is that you'll pick up more on a reread.
I do have a few complaints though:
This book should've had a trigger warning in the beginning.
The first 1/3rd of this book is very heavily influenced by a character's suicide attempts and mentions other's death's by suicide a lot. and I just think a trigger warning should've been included.
I listened to the audio of this book and I absolutely LOVED the first narrator. Both the voice actor and the written narrator. Perfect match. The girl was unhinged and I was here for it.
However narrator's two and three got progressively less interesting and likable. By the time I got to the third- I was fighting to pay attention. She was so incredibly booooring. It was such a disappointment after the opening. Though- I'm impressed by how unique each of the narrator's characters were. They were so different from each other with their own "voices"
Last minor complaint is in the fact that I listened to the audio- there was a hint that maybe there were clues in the book revolving around the number three- and being that I didn't read the physical I couldn't go sleuthing through the pages to try and find the hidden messages (if they are even there)
Over all I had fun reading this one.

What a fantastic thriller! This gave me complete ‘urban legend’ vibes, I loved how the stories all linked together.
This creeped me out during certain sections, the whole ‘what if/haunting’ always does.
This gripped me from the start and is a binge worthy read.
