Sometimes, a book that works for others doesn’t work for me, and that’s okay.
This one. Damn. I could go on and on about what I didn’t like. I’m not one who regularly figures out a twist, but when I do, I can still enjoy the journey and the story to get there. I didn’t with this. It felt like it would never get there. I kept turning pages just because I wanted it to end already.
Lindsey was excruciating. I can understand the naïveté and making excuses for another when she was 19. I was 19 and fell for the wrong man too. But, jeez, eleven years later we are supposed to believe she raised her daughter, had a somewhat successful entrepreneurial business, was brave enough to start over after an abusive relationship, regularly attended support groups, but still was naive and made excuses for everyone’s actions? (except the ol’ unoriginal evil ex)
I’ve enjoyed other Chevy Stevens books, but this one was a hard miss for me.

I would like to give this 4.5 stars.
Really good! Of course, I knew a twist was coming when the book continued after a certain point but I hadn't figured everything out and it was still a great book.

This book took forever to get started. I was pained while reading it. The abuser becomes heroic. I want the four hours of my life returned.
Great read
This book kept me guessing until the end. The two main characters were very well developed and the mother-daughter relationship seemed so real. The only thing I didn't understand was why the author wrote in the part of Sophie's boyfriend, Jared, sneaking around their home. Was she trying to make the reader think he was sinister? I would highly recommend this book and author. Her books always have such great character development and the description of the northwest makes me long to visit.

Kraj mi je bio previše predvidljiv i nekako isforsiran. OK knjiga, ništa posebno.
By far her best! Being a survivor of domestic violence, I sometimes felt like she was writing about my life. If she's never been a victim, she certainly nailed the breath holding experiences one goes through as they try to break free and live life looking behind their backs.
Had it not been years since my abuse was laid to rest, I wouldn't have been able to make it through this read.
As terrifying as domestic violence is, I thank her for bringing this topic to light.

This was a decent almost 5 star for me until the end. It was so obvious and cliched when there was a much better antagonist in the story, one that really could’ve pulled off shock and awe. And the ending is really written like we’re suddenly supposed to feel bad for Andrew and just forgive him for everything? He was still a creep after he got out. He still stalked his ex and kid and still talked about them like he owned them and they owed him everything. And also everything with Jared just going nowhere. The ending is too light and fluffy to assume it’s supposed to be a dark ending where clearly Sophie is dating a man like her father. And if we’re not supposed to think that, then why write him as a creepy possessive kid who it sounds like drugs and rapes girls!? Jared being the bad guy would’ve been a way better ending. The ending of this book just pissed me off.
