I'm struggling with how to review this, I really didn't like it at all and that is a real shame as I loved Three Women. I don't want to say negative things because I think when the subject matter is as raw as this, it's going to elicit differing responses from people. But can safely say that this was not for me.

another reviewer called this 70% boring and 30% shock value, which was definitely my experience with this book.
the first half of the book is spent building to a climax i quickly stopped caring about. it goes on tangents and repeats itself constantly trying to keep the audience on their toes while giving us nothing of substance, so it just becomes very difficult to get invested.
i liked joan as a narrator but she just felt so cliche to the "sad, edgy twenty/thirty-something female narrator" genre, i couldn't tell if taddeo was beating the dead horse with tropes or if it was supposed to be satirical, and if it's the latter it didn't come through the way it could have.
i have to say, it does make interesting points about girlhood, motherhood and female rage— it has the potential to be such a brilliant book, i just felt it was executed poorly.

2.5⭐️ ive honestly never been more excited to finish a book and then hopefully never ever think about it ever again. this was gnarly and honestly pretty disappointing - almost DNFed a few times but stuck it out because i love taddeo’s voice and the storyline was intriguing but the pacing of this felt very off. kept feeling like i had to take a shower after reading so honestly adding half a star for that lmfao really was impressively heinous. TW: literally everything under the sun be warned

Are you kidding me why does it always have to end with the women either having a child or getting married like PLEASE Joan does NOT need to be having a child, what she needs to be doing is getting her tubes tied and going to therapy
