This book was okay. I liked the main character, Kazmin, and she was the only one who held my interest. She was determined and definitely brave, but I didn’t really care much for the other characters. There was a little bit of a love triangle going on, but frankly I wasn’t shipping Kazmin with either boy, so that fell flat for me.

The story itself was entertaining, but the whole book was slow, in my opinion. Kazmin and the group she’s with are traveling to this enormous mountain in search of a relic in an ancient city, so the pretty whole book is just them walking. Honestly, I would’ve been more engaged with this book I hadn’t been distracted by ACOFAS sitting three feet from me waiting to be read next!!

I don’t have much else to say about this book. It was average for me, but I think others would still find it an interesting story.

"The clouds were gone, chased away by the wind that scraped its chilly fingers over the mountain. The stars were so bright and so close I felt as if I were standing among them. I could reach out and catch one, trapping it between my palms like a firefly."

I was expecting too much out of it I think, it wasn't as good as I was hoping.

i had absolutely no idea what this book was about when i picked it up, but i had heard that it had dragons in it so i was super excited. however, the dragons in this book are only used as floating lamps, basically. that was disappointing, but that was also mainly my fault for not reading the synopsis to figure out what the book was about exactly.

instead of dragons, this book follows kamzin, a girl who loves to explore. because of this, she’s dreamed of becoming one of the royal explorers. one day, river shara, the most well known royal explorer, shows up in her small town and takes her on a dangerous mountain climbing adventure.

the plot was quite interesting! i’ve never read another book like it, tbh, so that was nice. i loved seeing kamzin’s interest in climbing and hiking, and she was a very sassy and smart main character. however, i did personally feel like the middle of the book was dragged out a bit too much, and found myself skimming through the pages here and there.

Solid 4 stars. A lot of passages even 4,5.

I loved the atmosphere in this book. The high peaks of the snowy mountains, the campfires and tents, the pet dragons lighting the way. It was really well done and I loved all the passages about climbing.

The characters were well done, I just missed some final spark to really fall in love with them and ship them.

Less good than Emily’s encyclopaedia, but okay. Very plot driven, with a few gaping holes the characters studiously avoided examining until the twist revealed the necessity. It was fine, didn’t love. Liked it enough to get the second book.

This is a perfect book for anyone who has ever wanted to venture out into the world, anyone who has ever wanted to see what the human body can do when pushed to its limits.

Kamzin is "Ma' Girl". She's free-spirited, athletic, adventurous, and brave (above all else). She's true to herself and understands her own limits and the limits of others...and still pushes on! Her pet fox is just as fiery (fitting, since he's her familiar).

Mountain Climbing, fire demons, and tiny dragons? Yes. Yes. Absolutely!

I loved this book, it has some great characters in Kamzin and River, both who I love but are total crazy spazzes. I liked watching how Kamzin grew throughout her journey up the mountain, and I'm intrigued where her character will go next. Also I need to talk about the sassy animals in this book, esp Ragtooth- Kamzin's angry, scruffy looking fox who looks like a "cross between a monkey and a raccoon" and bites people to show his love. He is also a crazy little loyal spaz and I loved him so much.
