Very entertaining book that is extrEMELY violent and graphic. The ensemble of characters is excellent. I loved Bedeckt, Wichtig and Stehlen. Konig was interesting, Morgen as well. Gehirn had huge potential that I felt was a bit wasted. Honestly the only reason this book doesn't get 5* is the Slaver parts. I feel they dragged far too long than they needed to. Also I noticed that Fletcher doesn't like to describe combat a lot and I don't know why. He describes only 3 battles through the whole book while completely skipping others.

Anyway, if you have the stomach for it, I would recommend. The world and the magic system and the worldbuilding are ama-zing.

A book so grimy I felt like my brain needed a shower afterwards.

Extremely imaginative premise (delusions manifest in reality!) and some solid if appalling characters add up to a disturbing but compelling slice of grimdark fantasy. The book doesn't quite manage to stay consistently intriguing the whole way through, but it's undeniably vivid and memorable.

Will I read the next in the series? Probably. If my filthy brain ever gets clean...

Maybe a 3.75. Really bogged down in the middle, and Gehirn was mostly a slog to read about. Crazy unique (pun not intended), but Wichtig was perhaps the only like able character, at least until the end.

Need to let it stew a bit.

I like the dark edgy stuff, but this is dark for the sake of being dark with no purpose behind it.

DNF, 39%.

Everyone is "bad" in a very shallow way.

Magical power is tied to delusions, which did not work too well for me, as there is neither a structure to the magic not a thematic meaning behind it. Crazy = powerful is not enough on its own.

The social world that comes about from such a setting did not convince me either. A major driving force for the plot is the claim that all gods came from human minds, but that none were designed for a purpose, which is simply not true from a historical perspective - the qualities of gods were very often designed for a purpose.

4.25.
This book is filthy. It has an amazing magic (delusion) system and it will out-grimdark all other fantasy books. I would give it 5 stars if the execution was a little better.

.. change what pple think and you change the world ..

what a crazy, delusional, insanely great, brutal book with a sprinkle of humor. genius use of the german language as names for people and places. totally fitting and made me laugh out loud more than ones.
but make no mistake its dark af.

the "magic" system is insanely good and well thought through. characters are shite pple but in a twisted way likeable at least most of them.

Damn this cursed sanity. How is being a helpless prisoner of reality sane?

Highly recommend!!
