Beyond Redemption by Michael R. Fletcher
DNF, 39%.
Everyone is "bad" in a very shallow way.
Magical power is tied to delusions, which did not work too well for me, as there is neither a structure to the magic not a thematic meaning behind it. Crazy = powerful is not enough on its own.
The social world that comes about from such a setting did not convince me either. A major driving force for the plot is the claim that all gods came from human minds, but that none were designed for a purpose, which is simply not true from a historical perspective - the qualities of gods were very often designed for a purpose.
