The adventure was fun, but the action was ridiculous.

This novel includes men jumping onto moving trains (from other moving trains), dangling from helicopters on rope, and riding motorbikes out of flying planes. Just one too many action movies were watched during the making of this novel.

However, I did find the story to be interesting and I liked all of the lore and puzzle-solving. The characters were developed and all had solid relationships with each other and fleshed-out motivation, but it all did seem rather cliche and cookie-cutter. I'm interested in seeing where the series goes in general, but hopefully the lore will stay at the forefront and the ridiculous aspects will be left behind.

The idea was good but the delivery fell short. I was happy to go along for the ride and enjoy the adventure but it just because a stupid story about blowing stuff up. I found the main characters annoying, particularly Eddie who appears to have been modelled on a twelve year old boy.

It...was not that good. I’ve read quite a bit of James Rollins, Matthew Reilly, David Goleman; I love adventure thrillers. I wish I could say I liked this book more than I did. The writing wasn’t great, there were so many exclamation points used with the narrator! It annoyed me and was really cheesy in a bad way. The main character was annoying, she was smart and stupid at the same time. And annoyingly smart but naive and over the top flirty with her body guard, especially in high stress, high danger situations. It just really annoyed me. I did like the plot though! I must say that I’m a sucker for these finding a lost myth storylines. It did follow the usual pattern but it was fun nonetheless, as long as I didn’t focus on the writing and characters too much. I may read the other ones in hopes that his writing matured as he writes more. We’ll see.

I couldn't deal with all! Of the! Exclamation points! It took me right out of the action. Shame, because the story was pretty decent so far.

*4.5 stars.

Amazing start to what I hope to be an awesome series. In my opinion, it reminded me of a cross between, Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code. I can't wait until I can get my hands on the second book!!!!

Fun. That's the word to describe this book. It has action that is WAY over the top, but it's a pleasurable read anyhow. Reminds me of Matthew Reilly's books with all the action.

This book is the first in an action/thriller series featuring almost all of the cliches of the genre...power mad billionaire, beautiful but deadly daughter of said billionaire...plucky, intelligent, but also beautiful scientist lady...rogueishly charming ex-special forces hero...plot to destroy/save the world...global hopping scene settings...legends and myths come true...things that go boom...cool new tech toys...lots of high caliber gun play...nick of time escapes and improbable stunts.

so, was it great? no...but good enough that i will try at least one more in the series...the guy did a good job for a formulaic 1st novel. entertaining and a quick read...if you like Matthew Reilly, James Rollins, Jack du Brul, etc. give it a shot.
