My first book from Dean Koontz and I am curious to read another book from him. The whole book is from the perspective of Billy, a bartender. His character is interesting, and things happened that I certainly did not see coming, which is something I prefer in crime-related books. How will he cope with a madman, his cop friend, his colleagues,...? How could he safe his girlfriend who is in a coma? Can he handle the first wound?

Not one of Dean Koontz' finest works but enjoyable enough to warrant three stars. Some parts of this book provided quite uncomfortable reading such was the depravity being described. I think Koontz' strengths lie in his ability to really dig deep into the pysche of both his good and evil characters, make you feel something and maybe question your own moral limits.
I always enjoy Koontz' work but this was not him at the peak of his powers. If you love Dean Koontz you'll like this but if not you won't be converted here as there are a lot of finer reads in his catalogue.

Wow. I can't believe I finished it. My first Dean Koontz book very well could be my last. Intensity is terrible. How is this so popular? No thrills, no intensity, no moments where I was clamoring to stay up just so I could get through a few more chapters. It's written horribly and really is not good in any way.
I really would give this between a 3 and 4. It's a solid read, with a great start, and slowly fizzles out towards the ending. If you've watched horror movies or read them growing up the twist isn't hard to see. It's pretty easy and while it's well explained it's nothing special. I did like the start and the idea but I wish he kept going. Either way it's worth a read.

I don't want to spoil this book for you, so please don't read my review if you want to read this book, I won't try to stop you from reading it, it's got it's moment, but I really can't say that I liked it. So, please, if you're going to read this book stop reading right now, I won't reveal anything really important, but there's some info that I think must be stated that would spoil the book for you if you read on. I really didn't like this book. I like a lot of things that I read, but I didn't like this book. I thought that the plot was kinda dumb, and the characters were uninteresting. I thought the reason behind the attacks was... dumb and that the book resembled a TV mystery show WAY too much. Specifically, Scooby Doo. That's what I thought of this book, it's like Scooby Doo, but instead of Ghost Pirate Treasure there's Fishhooks Through The Forehead. And I like Scooby Doo. A lot. I even liked the movies. But I didn't like this book. I didn't hate it, but I thought that there was way too much build up for the reveal.
I feel sad I didn't like this book. I love Dean Koontz but I was really disappointed in this book. I didn't connect with the characters and overall I didn't like the story.
