This was so good at the start and the middle, Hester’s rampage and the Green Storm were epic and so engaging. The Lost Boys were terrifying and curious, but the bit I wasn’t engaging with was Anchorage. I loved it when this novel went dark and problematic and that was so exciting, but returning to Anchorage and squabbles and America was a bit dull. And the ending was very anti-climatic. Leaving to America and happily ever after? Well what happened when they got there? I want to continue the story for more Hester and Anna Fang, but I might not be able to deal with the light squabbling. Also, Hester is an amazing woman, and anyone who thinks Philip has an issue with female representation needs to understand that this woman was realistic and raw and I fucking loved her.

I liked the second book much better, the characters have grown, but there are also many new ones.
Characters:
▫️Pennyroyal is Gilderoy Lockhart from Harry Potter. Such a storyteller and just as sneaky...
▫️Freya Rasmussen is extremely conceited and spoilt at the beginning, but changes towards the end of the book.
▫️
I found comments about Hester's looks below the belt...
This body shaming. Apparently 21 years ago it was normal to write something like that. Luckily it's unimaginable today.
Worldbuilding:
Brutal, merciless dystopian world.
Here we discover many more new, wandering cities and get to know the cruel reality. A very interesting concept!
I'm already looking forward to volume 3.

Wasn’t I surprised by this! I loved Mortal Engines #2 much more than the first book - maybe the movie had it spoiled for me, or maybe the second book does have better character development and more, amazingly imaginative details about the steampunk world of traction cities. Descriptions so vivid it made you wanna stop and sketch them down. And Hester and Freya, what an amazing female characters duo 😍. Happy I didn’t trust reviews on this one. Down with book #3 now ~

I loved the continuation of Tom and Hester's adventures! I'm excited to see where life takes them next, especially after that ending!

Reviewed by a 6th grader: London has been destroyed but now Hester and Tom are going to find the lost continent of America. They are getting a ride on the city of Anchorage and are being trailed by two different groups: the city of Archangel and a small spider like thieving machine.
The plot was very interesting and it was well written.
Recommended for optional purchase.

This love triangle made me so mad. Little princess girl thinks she can steal Tom. I literally hate her so much. That dude stabbing Tom, the betrayal! If he didn’t stab him maybe Tom would’ve lived longer in the last book. In conclusion, this book really brought out my anger but it was still a good plot.
