Ummm. I’m not sure what to say. I thought maybe I was crazy for not liking this as much as I expected to. Truthfully, I’ve been reading this book on and off for months. I just couldn’t seem to stay interested, so I would pause and read something else.

I like Alex. It’s hard not to, considering he doesn’t really do much to sway you one way or the other. I found the “romance” to be extremely cringe. A lot of the plot came out of left field. Stuff would be mentioned that I had totally forgotten about, or I was just like “Why on earth do they think that?” or “Why on earth are they saying this now?” We are told that people are genius-level intelligent, but they don’t really show it.

I don’t know. I didn’t hate it. But I definitely didn’t love it. Maybe the rest of the series gets better?

I felt pretty meh about this one. It was all over the place and the ending felt really rushed.

Along Came a Spider was a pretty straightforward mystery that dragged a bit. The killer was by far the most interesting part, and if explored more could have pushed this book up a few stars. As it stands I grew bored of Alex's sex life and days spent with his girlfriend. I wanted more action, intrigue, and plot progression, and less flirting and kissing. The few twists and turns were interesting, but the pace was too slow for me. If the focus was more on the mystery and less on day to day boring activities then this would have been better. As it stands I would have to give it 2.5 stars, it barely kept my interest at times and I don't find Alex Cross to be that interesting or deep of a character.

I really liked the first half of the book, but then after the trial, the plot dragged. I think I like the movie better.

This is such a good mystery novel. The characters are engaging and relatable (even if Alex is a little too perfect of a specimen for the human race).

The book was enjoyable, but I've realized I'm not Patterson's target audience.
