Not as good as Hyperbole and a Half, but still really really good.

This book makes me cry laugh every time I read it. What she draws is so relatable that you think she may have actually been spying on you at some point.

The book was indeed A Nice read. I wasn't aware of the author prior reading but I'm glad that i made a go with this book. It depicts the autobiographical account of her struggles with depression and self-low esteem, body image, eating disorders, try to be behave as a so-called grown-up.

There are many things i could relate with this account. It was funny and refreshing read. Some scribbles were exceptional, close to heart, quirky, adorable.

Thanks Netgalley, Rubyetc and McMeel Publishing for the opportunity.

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this expecting a light, funny graphic novel, and was surprised when I found a very real account of the struggles of depression. Ruby meets the reality of mental health head on and doesn't sugarcoat anything. She has a talent for finding the comedy in things and the book is scattered with such accurate portrayals of life experiences that I found myself chuckling while feeling sad at the same time.

I would recommend this book as a great resource for mental health. It is full of truths and deals with heavy subjects but you leave with the knowledge that it's all absolutely fine. Sort of.

It's hard for me give a fair critique on this book because it felt like part of it wasn't for me? It came off as two books in one. The comics and the written portions. As someone diagnosed with depression and anxiety the comics were relateable in a hilarious/approachable way. In that same vain, because I am familiar with mental illness and navigating life with it, the written portions seemed more like Mental Illness 101 for folks who aren't as familiar. Maybe that's what the author was going for, though? And it didn't make me like the book less, I was just less interested in the written out portions because I got most of that information from the comics themselves. Overall, I enjoyed the book and had a lot of great laughs while reading it.

This is a beautiful, charming, moving look at what life with MH issues can feel like. It's also very bizarre, funny and unsentimental, which is really what makes it work. I've long been a fan of Rubyetc online and I loved this collection. Put into context with essays about her own personal struggles, it really illuminates why she is able to so precisely capture the pain and dark humor of mental illness. I hope she keeps writing essays (which are very funny as well) in addition to her comics, I think she is able to speak directly, with both frankness and kindness, to people who are struggling in a way very few others can.

I adored the evocative illustrations. The text was often pretty brutal.

I really love Ruby's illustrations and think they are entirely relatable, even if you don't struggle with depression/anxiety/other disorders, which I never really have (well maybe the anxiety bit). I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about what it's like having depression/anxiety/other disorders, or anyone who does have them and would like to see how someone else manages it, or anyone else who loves her stuff online. In each chapter there's a page or two of writing to accompany several pages of her recognizable drawings. There are some of the classics in here, but I didn't recognize everything so it's definitely worth a read even if you've followed her on social media for a long time.
