Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance by Shellee Roberts

Cute, light teen romance. Pros: old movie references, theater geeks, hot guys, and toe-curling kisses. Cons: Horrible, manipulative ex-girlfriend, clueless parents, no apology from friend who stole ex-boyfriend, very abrupt ending. I hear there maybe more coming in the story of Mariely and Cabot, while I understand why a publisher might choose to release a story in installments, it's really frustrating as a reader to only get part of a tale at once. I'm past ready for the requisite trilogy to be a thing of the past.

I received an eARC from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

When I found this book on Netgalley I just knew that I wanted to request it, I really enjoyed How Willa Got Her Groove Back and I couldn’t wait until I could read the other books in this series. I was lucky and I got the book to read and review it.

The book is written from Mariely Hinojosa, the protagonist. A girl who loves acting and would like to be an actress one day. There are also a few chapters written from Cabot Wheeler his perfective, a boy who loves photography and painting. The way it was written was eactly the same as in How Willa Got Her Groove Back. Mariely was written from the first person and Cabot from the third person – just like with Willa and Finn. Mariely was a very nice protagonist, she was funny but sometimes a little insecure. She was unsure of herself, but also of her home. I just liked to read from her perspective and she didn’t annoy me one time. I also liked Cabot A LOT. He is super sweet and helpful and I literally swooned all the way through the book.

Another thing that this book resembled from How Willa Got Her Groove Back, was that it contained a lot of drama. Not nearly as much as in HWGHGB, but still quite a lot. It started with this whole thing about the breakups of Mariely and Jacen and Cabot and Audrey. Then it goes straight to the drama of the fauxmance – the fake relationship and that really was the best thing about it. A book should have the right amount of drama in it and that is something Shellee Roberts did very well.

The way Mariely and Cabot fall in love is realistic and also very cute. You see them slowly (and then all at once.. no just kidding) falling of each other and that makes reading it so much more fun! I had the idea that sometimes it was a bit rushed, that sometimes it just went too fast and I think that is because the book is so short. I pity that, because if the book was slightly longer I obviously could enjoy it even longer and I think that the relationship of Mariely and Cabot could be a bit more detailed.

The protagonists of HWGHGB were also in this book and that is something I was impressed about. I knew this book was part of a series, but I didn’t know that Willa and Finn would be in it so often. Also the subject from the other book is reflected in this book. It is so fun to see it through Marielys eyes, and see what Willa and Finn feel for each other. It is fun because you can experience Marielys intake on their situation– that Mariely also thinks that they should be together. I loved that.

I really – really enjoyed the book, it was light and easy to read, but I couldn’t give it five stars. If I had to compare it with HWGHGB, I think Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance just missed something, so I give it four stars.

I love how this book has a revenge with a little twist. To get back at their ex's they pretend to be together. Cabot is the hot rich guy who we find out is actually a nice guy. He agrees to go along with this fake hook up with Mariely who was dumped as well.
But what turns out as fake can be something real? Although friends don't believe Cabot would date Mariely the girl who is on a scholarship. But their world's are more similar than they realize the more time spent together.  Can they mend their broken hearts with each other and learn to trust again?? Or will they let their feelings for each other pass? Both not wanting to get hurt again are to scared to try again.
I hope there will be more to this book. I truly enjoyed reading this fun quick book.

This was a fun and sweet wee young adult read.

As we all know, when we were in school, rumours, breakups and relationships could make or break someone. They often caused weeks, if not months, of pain or annoyance, with regards to the other kids at school. Our main characters decide to try a fake relationship to get rid of both the problems and soon they see that it isn't as easy or cut and dry as they thought it would be.

Both of the characters are developed well. They have very different personalities and are in different cliques at school. Effectively, the last two people you'd think to see together. I liked that the fake gig actually helped the two of them learn and grow, as well as see that people aren't always what their stereotypes make them out to be.

The pace was really good. Throughout, the story kept moving, which kept it both exciting and entertaining. It had the real feel of school and young relationships, which made the story more believable and easier to relate to.

Overall, I think is was a great read and I believe a lot of YA readers will really enjoy it. I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

**I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This book is the ultimate cuteness. I haven’t read the previous two books in the series (but I want to now that I’ve read this one) so I didn’t know what to expect but in the end it was better than I ever expected and I loved it. Well, I actually knew I would probably love it because I know Entangled: Crush can’t go wrong with all these cute books.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I loved Mariely and I loved how she was. She didn’t have an easy life but she knew what she wanted. Also, her style was amazing. I know she didn’t dressed like that only because of fashion but I still loved it and I loved how unique she was. Cabot was, well Cabot was cute and I still can’t understand why I couldn’t find people like him when I was on high school. It’s not fair. I really liked how their relationship developed. I think it was great that before they had feelings for each other they had some kind of friendship. It might have been a little bit fast but I liked to see them talking about things and becoming friends before they even thought about a relationship. I also liked some of the other characters a lot and now I need to read Willa’s book because I want to know what happened (or didn’t happen) between her and Finn. And am I the only one who’s really excited to see Cabot and Finn’s bromance?? I need to see those two together.

Another thing I really enjoyed and the writing and how this book had a dual POV. I really, really liked how the dual POV worked in this book. My only problem it’s that I wouldn’t mind a few more chapters in Cabot’s POV.

Overall, this was a fun and easy read that everyone that loves young adult contemporary should read. I can’t wait to read books 2 and 3 (even when I need to wait until Winter 2017 for book 2).

I Debated On My Rating...

So I debated a bit on my rating here because I did like this book so I considered a four stars, but that ending really didn't do it for me. I mean yes the scene has sigh moments to it but I don't know it's like the story ends like a truncated file. It's just over when it seems like there should be so much more. I mean considering the very different backgrounds these kids have, the very different future paths they're potentially on, it seems like it's going to be a little hard to be awesome and really unrealistic to not truly address those obstacles. I guess it's more than that for me with this story as well. There's the bakc and forth between first and third POV I didn't really care for, I think this could have been done much better either in a solid third or a rotating first. But most of all it tries too hard. The author clearly decided this story would remain mostly lighthearted despite providing broken characters with real issues in a setting conductive to drama. We know they have issues but the surface of those is barely skimmed in order to keep that lighthearted not too deep feel of the story. It's kind of like the ending where it ends before they really have to face the hard stuff. I'm all for a lighthearted story when the characters fit the bill, I wouldn't bother with teen romance if I didn't enjoy the occasional lighthearted story. But as a reader I don't like to be teased with something deeper then cheated out of the experience in order to achieve that feel and ultimately that is my biggest issue with the story. However it was a good story. I liked Mariley and Cabot, I wanted to know them better. I'm curious about Willa and Finn, two of the secondary characters in this story. The peek into the world of NextGen High has me intrigued and I'd like to know more. Don't get me wrong it's a good book, it's just one of those good books that you know could have been better.

This book had the right amount of romance, fluff, fun, and uniqueness to set it apart from the others. I thought the art school was a very cool touch, especially using the female old school actress as curse words. I know I have drama nerd friends who would do just that so it really felt authentic in that way. The ONLY thing I didn't like is it didn't feel like enough. How did his art project turn out, did she get another job, I just felt like it could have had more and dived a bit deeper into her past and life too.

Have you ever needed a book with romance and characters that you could just get swept up in and forget everything around you until you finished the book? That was this book for me. I didn't realize how much I needed this one.

This is the third book in a series of high school romances, but I jumped right into the story without missing out on the first two. Shellee Roberts does a wonderful job of making her story stand out from the sea of crowded high school romances. She let me peek into the world of art, theater, and Rockabilly style, all while keeping the story very believable. Her characters get detention for PDA in the halls and are reprimanded for staying out too late. She keeps the high school romance story cliches to a minimum. (Although the overall plot is a cliche, but that aside..)

It was a quick read, partly because of the first scene that hooks you in from the very beginning. I highly recommend it for someone looking a beach read, or something light and fluffy. Don't let the fluffiness fool you though, I was shouting out loud and sobbing along with the main character.

Shellee Robert, you are a wizard with your details and now I secretly wish I could wear my hair in Victory Rolls. Thank you for writing this story and thank you Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for hooking me up with a copy of this.

Although I love all Entangled Crush books, this was probably my favorite so far. As a Texan myself, I loved that the book was set in Austin and I am a sucker for romances that both A) start off fake and B) show how two people from totally opposite sides of the social ladder can fall in love.

Mariely has an excellent friend group in her life and I really admire how the story handled Mariely's ex-boyfriend throughout the story. It really says a lot when someone can be the bad guy and I end up liking him at the end.

Also Cabot is a sexy dreamboat with an artistic flare and who doesn't love that?? I totally recommend this to anyone wanting to read a heart-stopping love story!
