This was my first favorite book and is still so important to me.

I enjoyed this book. It was slow at first and a bit confusing with all this lingo that I had to keep up with. This is an interesting tale about a boy named Spaz who lives in the destructive future with no books. We find out that Spaz has a dying step sister and this tale turns to one of him trying to save her. Along the way, we will encounter odd but scary (at least to me) technology, interesting characters, and gangs. I recommend this book for others to read. It will definitely keep you entertained and has a few very enjoyable twists.

(Updating my records to review books I read before blogging and my activity here on Goodreads. Taken from reading notes. 7/22/21)

Another book that was suggested for an all-school read. This one has potential as it addresses issues of pollution, genetic engineering, poverty, friendship. It reminds me of Westerfeld's Uglies. I had a hard time making myself read it, however, and I doubt kids will persevere.

My all-time favorite book to teach (and this is my sixth year teaching it) and one of my all-time favorite books in general. I will never stop recommending this to kids and adults alike, and I will also never stop advocating for a movie. Go. Read. This. Book.

I think a lot of current YA authors owe Rodman Philbrick an apology for all the ideas they've stolen from him. My students loved this book and begged to read more everyday.

Good adventure/survival story, although it didn't have as much to do about books as I thought it would. This 2000 release was recommended to me by my friend who is an English teacher.
