It had many moving pieces, some good and some bad. It came together in the end, FINALLY. Many slow parts and moments/descriptions we didn’t need.
Robyn is back on the job, working a missing person case that turns into a murder case which turns into a serial killer. Another perspective Abigail is getting threatening messages and disturbing things are happening. She feels like she is losing her mind.
Zero spice. Dark. Triggering parts.

The minute I was half way through this book, I was anxious to write my review. This novel was absolutely brilliant. If you are a fan of M.J. Arlidge, I definitely suggest this novel for you. Even though it was very different, for me it still had a lot of connections in the way it was written. I received this read on NetGalley from Bookouture Publishing and I am so pleased to finally get this review out there.
This novel starts off following another female Detective Inspector named Robyn Carter. She has just previously returned to the force after a tragic loss in her life. Her first case back on the force is a missing persons case. The man’s name is Lucas Matthew’s and his wife reported him missing. As Robyn starts looking into the wife’s claims and making her way through the investigation Lucas’ father, Paul Matthews has been murdered. As Robyn begins to think both men are connected somehow, she can’t figure out how. While she is in the middle of the investigation, Paul Matthews’ house cleaner and Mary Matthews’ (Lucas’ wife) end up dead. The only thing Robyn has to go on is that a mother and wife named Abigail Thorne is somehow connected to every person.
I loved everything about this book. I will be honest though, I was a little confused at the beginning of the novel and it took me a few chapters to finally put it all together. Inside the novel you read chapters told from a few different points of view but the main ones you need to remember are Alice, DI Robyn Carter and Abigail. They are the three most important characters that will leave you breathless come the last chapter.
Little Girl Lost has just the right amount of thrilling twists and turns that it deserved. There was enough to keep me on the edge of my seat and more than enough to keep my heart racing in fear of something bad happening at the end. The minute I thought I had the killer figured out, the book proved me wrong. It wasn’t until about 70% of the way through the book when I realized who the culprit was but did not know in any fashion how the situation would end up.
After finishing up the book, I was pretty bummed that it was over. It was such a great gripping read that I didn’t want it to end. I definitely wouldn’t mind if Carol Wyer wrote more and made it a DI Robyn Carter series!
Thank you to Bookouture Publishing for providing me a copy via NetGalley. It was a great pleasure to provide an honest review.

A special thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Also listened to the audiobook, narrated by Emma Newman. Review to follow.
La mia recensione ---> https://ilibridiclaudia.blogspot.com/2019/12/recensione-la-bambina-perduta-di-carol.html

A perfect family hiding disturbing secrets. A killer who wants the truth to be told.
A teacher goes missing under suspicious circumstances.
A millionaire is murdered at a local reservoir.
For Detective Robyn Carter, there’s no obvious link between the men. But as she starts to delve into the cases, her investigations lead her to Abigail, perfect wife and mother to beautiful little Izzy. What was Abigail’s connection to the victims? And why is she receiving threatening messages from an anonymous number?
But as Robyn starts to inch closer to finding the killer, Izzy is abducted.
Unless Robyn gets to the twisted individual in time, a little girl will die …
This was my first book by Carol E Wyer and it was a pretty good read. The story is told in a then and now format and from the POV of Alice, Robin and Abigail. There are lots of twists and turns, with several suspects who all seem to be hiding something. But how do the three characters connect?
I enjoyed this novel and while it became obvious who the killer was, it was still an engaging read and had a certain edge to it which I liked. Little Girl Lost is a good start to this series and I have no hesitation in recommending it as a good read. I look forward to the next installment - Secrets of the Dead - which was released at the end of May 2017. It has moved up my reading list!

When I finished this book I just said to Carol “Finished Robyn
I read this story in one day and really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that it did take me a bit of time to get into the flow of the story. Due to the changing points of view throughout I had to keep reminding myself who it was and how they related to everything else.
I have to admit I did spot a clue quite early on as to who the culprit would be, but there was a lot I didn't figure out until much later. A sign of a good story is one where you think you know what's going on, it turns out you are right in some ways, but the story still has the ability to shock you with some of the revelations. This story was one of those for me.
Detective Robyn Carter is an intriguing character. I would love to read more about her back story as she still retains a lot of anger, and grief, from what happened to her in the past. We do find out what happened to her right at the beginning, but I would love an in depth look at that as it is affecting her hugely throughout the story.
The writing is good, the story held my attention throughout, and I look forward to reading more about Robyn and her colleagues.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book.

Review: Little Girl Lost (Detective Robyn Carter #1) by Carol E. Wyer Published by: Bookouture (19 January 2017)

Rating: 4*
Synopsis:
Abigail lives the perfect life with her doting husband and adorable baby Izzy. But someone knows a secret about Abigail and they want the truth to be told. When Izzy is snatched from a carpark, it becomes as case for Detective Robyn Carter. Someone has been sending threatening messages to Abigail from an anonymous number. What is Abigail hiding? Robyn’s instincts tell her there’s a connection between Izzy’s abduction and two murders she is investigating. But the last time she acted on impulse her fiancé was killed. To break this case and earn her place back on the force, she must learn to trust herself again – and fast. Robyn is on the hunt for a ruthless serial killer. And unless she gets to the twisted individual in time a little girl will die ….
Review:
This story is told from the perspectives of three different people; Robyn, who is working as a private detective whilst taking a break from regular police work; Abigail, who is clearly hiding something; and eight year old Alice, whose story begins in the past. There are other central characters that add rich layers to this darkly compulsive, well written tale.
Robyn isn't one of those characters I warmed to immediately, but more of a slow burner. By the end of the novel, I found I'd grown to like her. Setting her interact with people outside work, particularly her cousin Ross and her fiancé's daughter and ex made her seem so much more human. I'm really looking forward to catching up with Robyn on her next case. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
