This one was not what I was expecting. It dealt most with depression and the crippling effects it has on life and how to overcome.

A meditative and moving companion to "You Are Not Your Own." This is much less academic or philosphical and more personal and encouraging. It's personal but not overly so - Mr. Noble does not metaphorically spill his guts for all to dissect. I would recommend this to anyone who has struggled with anxiety / depression / loneliness / etc. or anyone who knows and loves someone who does.

This was a book I needed in 2021, as I was dealing with many personal issues. The book provided comfort and clarity. It was a short read and not cumbersome, which is perfect when you can't focus in the depths of depression. I appreciate the push to keep on living while acknowledging how hard life can be at times.

Whatever detail or expanded thought I might want from it, I simply can't beat something that's this impactful while still being compact enough to recommend to the busy, burnt out friends who might just need it most. Its balance of brevity and depth might just make it a classic, and I'll be passing it along in hopes that it becomes one!

Wow. An impactful read for anyone struggling to get out of bed sometimes. I found it particularly helpful for someone who has a mental health diagnosis but is able to function 90% of the time. Lots of hope with a small kick in the pants.

Great little book on the everyday reality of suffering, particularly mentally. For those who suffer with a mental illness, Noble puts the hard to describe experience into words. And for those who love someone who suffers, Noble helps provide perspective, understanding and empathy.

This essay-turned-book was so concise and encouraging. As someone who works with teenager in the evangelical church, I think it would be great to give a student (or adult) who is struggling with mental health. He is a little repetitive, telling the reader to "just do the next thing" multiple times, but explains that you are not doing things just to do them. He combines practical truth with biblical truth, making this read not only spiritually encouraging, but also applicable and manageable (and a little convicting/difficult). Easy to read in an afternoon, and worth it.

This would be a great book table book @ Caysie Ashton

I liked this one! Had some good honest moments about mental suffering, he wasn’t afraid to say the things that are hard to hear if you’re struggling. But his writing was gentle as he was honest. So I would recommend, both for those suffering & for those caring for sufferers.
