I enjoy TJR’s writing style . She does a great job spinning stories.
I didn’t really care for the protagonist for the majority of the book though. I understand that grief is completely individual and is WEIRD and messy but …. I don’t think it gives you free reign to be a mean person . To everyone . All the time . I’ve had friends and family deal with some TOUGH life situations and not one has ever come close to being as straight-up mean as Elsie.
Thankfully … she did evolve which certainly helped redeem her (to me) and the book .

This is my third book my TJR and I enjoyed the audiobook. I had no idea what it was about but the audio quickly drew me in after I had to DNF another book. It explores all of the stages of grief and how even when we think we cannot continue we must find the strength to do so. We always think we have all this time, but in reality life is so short and can drastically change in the blink of an eye.

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her other books. I felt like the plot dragged on too long and I was bored towards the end of the book. I did enjoy to read about their relationship and Elsie’s relationship with her mother-in-law. I still plan to read the rest of her books.

2.5 stars! Having read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo first, this one is definitely not on the same level but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good book. I listened to this as an audiobook and boy, it got me teary many times. I would love for Elsie’s & Ben’s relationship to be more fleshed out. I’m very drawn to their somewhat impulsive but passionate relationship and I want to know more. Incredible sad but hopeful towards the end. Looking forward to reading more TJR!

TJR has become one of my favorite authors over the last few years! Going back to read all of her early stuff now. This was a good one -- I love her characters and storytelling, but WOW has she grown as an author. This book had some pretty predictable ideas, plots, and themes. Main character who loves books, back and forth in time, everything connects from chapter to chapter, etc. It was a very sweet book but by the last third I was ready to move on.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite authors and I’ve read all her books, but have put this one off until now. Knowing the subject matter and that it was her very first published book, I did not have high expectations. Her writing and depth to her plots have come such a long way in ten years.
