I was sad to read this last adventure with Artemis. I like him. I like Butler and Holly. Mulch is disgusting, I'm just going to say it; for all the times he saves the day I never really enjoyed reading about him or his bowels. But I'm not a school-aged boy, which is ostensibly the target audience of that particular character. This book probably got more stars for how neatly it wrapped up and ended the series that it would have if it were in the middle of the series and the plot had to stand for itself.
Likes: I like Artemis being Artemis. I like his little brothers they make me laugh.
Dislikes: The main reason I'm happy to be done with this series is I will never have to read another book with Opal Koboi as the villain. She's so annoying, one dimensional, and psychotic she never surprises you or gives you a reason to want to read about her. She's singularly boring and unpleasant.

Not bad, but I think the series was definitely dwindling by this point. I probably would have packaged it as 6 books instead of 8. The last two were mostly meh. Still, nice to have some closure on such a great series.

Es el gran final a una saga que he leído de joven y he terminado de adulto. Como conjunto es muy recomendable.
Y el final es de los que hacen daño.

This is the last in the Artemis Fowl series, and I was sad for it to be over. Our teenage supergenius returns in a caper that has the fate of all humanity at stake. Opal Koboi, the villainous pixie, has a plan to break out of prison that puts all humanity at risk of extinction, and Artemis, along with his bodyguard Butler and elf friend Holly Short must stop Opal and save the day. The dwarf Mulch Diggums also contributes to the caper, and his rear end, once again, plays a pivotal role. The final book in the series shows how much Artemis has grown over the series, from a selfish preteen super-villain to a much more ethical supergenius with genuine friendships. But it's still silly and full of puns and fart jokes. Nathaniel Parker is the reader on the audiobooks, and he's a perfect fit. LOVED this series!

Unfortunately, Mr. Colfer delivered a disappointment in his final Artemis Fowl volume. With seven incredible books, full of detailed characters, intriguing plots, and fantastic creations, I anticipated a grand conclusion. Instead, Mr. Colfer defaulted to cardboard and mild action falling into expected patterns. Nothing out of the ordinary, no surprises, and an ending that felt completely lackluster. The potential for a dynamic final battle resides in the bones of the story, untapped and neglected. Opal's intervening scenes contribute almost nothing to the storyline (who doesn't understand her motives by now?). Where's the documented struggle with the lock? Her so-called brilliance takes a backseat to fumbling around on the Fowl Estate. The troll received more credit in Book 1! So much untapped potential, left...well, somewhere - whether on the editor's desk or in Mr. Colfer's computer or notes. Artemis and Holly (indeed, every character) deserved a more fitting resolution to their tale.

It's always bittersweet to see a favorite series end, and Artemis Fowl is no exception. I've been a fan of this series since elementary school, and the books have gotten progressively more addicting. The Last Guardian is rife with the Colfer's usual humor, action, and ingenuity; however, it possesses one huge change: a turning point in Artemis' character development. It leads to a bittersweet ending, a final chapter that offers a strange sense of closure, one that was both uplifting and depressing.

The last of the Artemis Fowl series. We enjoyed it to the end, as family read alouds. (Also listened to some of the books on CD on car rides.) The 11 year old didn't like the last 3 as well as the first 3 or 4, she thought there was too much focus on the Opal-Artemis conflict. I thought this last one was better than #6. Decent ending. But have to agree the first 3 are the best.

Well, I'm glad that I know what happened in the end, but I'm not sure I can say much more for this book than that. Ultimately I think my issue is that I don't like Opal Koboi as a villain. But don't let me put you off - if you haven't read this series of books you should start as there is a lot of fantastic stuff there, and Artemis is one of the best heroes /evil genii in young adult fiction.

I used to love this series - and I don't know if I've just gotten too old for them, or what...but this one (and the last few in the series, to be exact) fell flat on me. I was not very engaged, at all.
