Wow! Collision of Lies is the first book that I have read from Tom Threadgill but after such an introduction, it certainly will not be the last! I absolutely could not put it down! Right from the start I was captivated with this unique suspense story.

We start by learning about this horrifying tragedy- a school bus full of innocent children hit by an oncoming train. For three years the parents have been dealing with the aftermath of saying goodbye to their children... until a text message suggests that perhaps things aren't as they seem. When Detective Amara Alvarez starts looking into this closed case, more and more questions unfold. This isn't a suspense with a lot of high paced action scenes, but that didn't stop it from keeping me at the very edge of my seat. I had to keep turning the pages to discover what really happened. Were the children still alive? And if so, where were they and why were they taken? This is one that I had to force myself to put down so that I could get some much needed sleep!

Aside from the fantastic suspense story in this book, I really enjoyed the banter between Amara and her coworkers. Let's be honest, a story about a bus full of children being killed or kidnapped is a pretty heavy read... that banter helped break up that heaviness with humor, and really just made me really fall in love with these characters even more. I was happy to see in the sneak peek for the next book that we will get to see more from these characters because frankly, I wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet.

Overall, this was a fantastic read that suspense fans will most certainly want to add to their to read list. I cannot wait to read more!

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Collision of Lies is a clean Christian mystery well-written by author Tom Threadgill. It is installment #1 of the Amara Alvarez series.

Was it too much to ask the couple to keep their personal matters private? It was Detective Amara’s day off, so how did she get involved in a case with a dead son? However, is he really dead? His mother thinks he is still alive and he is the one who sent the message. It has been three years, could he still be alive?

Amara had dreams of transferring to Homicide, Special Victims, or Narcotics. But, first, she needs to find out why bus driver Bradley Gingham drove a busload of children into the path of an oncoming freight train.

If the reader likes mystery, suspense, and maybe a little Downton Abbey they are sure to like Collision of Lies. I give collision of Lies 5*/5*.

When it was time to choose a new book to read, I searched for one that was different from any others I had been reading at the time. Collision of Lies by Tom Threadgill piqued my interest, and though I knew it would pull at my sensitive heartstrings, it was a story I wanted to read. I’m glad I did.

This was a story I had a hard time putting down, though there were times I knew I had to. From the very beginning I was hooked. Amara Alavarez has become a new favorite character for me, and the humor that laces itself throughout the story starting with her character and the characters she comes in contact with is a delight. I enjoyed Alvarez’s honesty. She knew what she wanted - or didn’t want - and she didn’t hide it.

The very first lines of chapter one give a peek into Alvarez’s character:

Thirty seconds.
If they were still arguing, she’d call the cops then. Let the professionals deal with them.

The humor in this is that she was one of those professionals. It just so happened that it was her day off, and she didn’t want to be bothered.

However, she does end up intervening, reluctantly though it may have been, and it sets up the rest of the story: A search for children who may or may not still be alive after their burials three years earlier.

Tom Threadgill did a wonderful job making me feel like I was a part of the story. The characters were real, the story believable. It was as though I was on the clue search right along with Alvarez, Colby, and Starsky. I was invested in this story and needed to know how it was going to end. And though I would have preferred a different ending, I appreciate how the author chose to keep it real. Not everything can wrap up with a happily ever after.

One thing that did bother me was all the missed opportunities to bring God into this story. Though He wasn’t completely disregarded - His name was brought up randomly - there were times God could have been relied on more since this story is Christian fiction. However, this would not deter me from reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light suspense thriller with some humor. I’m looking forward to more adventures with Detective Amara Alvarez.

Was it a horrific accident or something far more disturbing?

I thought this book was an intriguing suspense, but I did not get any vibes that it was of the Christian genre so much.

I found the plot to move along for the most part relatively quickly, although I felt there were a few spots that were slower. I did enjoy the humor, with a touch of romance included. I would recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a clean suspense novel. Tom Threadgill is a first-time author for me, and I have to say I would continue to read more by him in the future.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

When I signed up to review this book I thought it would be sad, suspenseful, enjoyable, and maybe have a little romance.
From flipping through the last bit of the book trying to get into it I found out I was right … Do you hear the "but" yet? Because it is there.
BUT the lead lady, Amara, is divorced, now I know that for the reasons she's divorced are okay according to the Bible, cheating and all, I just can't read it. It is so cliche, and sickening. So, I am not going to finish the book since there are so so many suspense that I'd found lately where the main lady is divorced and it is quickly getting old.
Sad.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
