i say this with slight embarrassment but this was the first nancy drew novel i'd ever read. i've always loved nancy as a literary figure, but cannot for the life of my remember why i avoided her books like the plague.

Some people have comfort food; I have comfort books. Nancy Drew books are at the top of that list--she is fearless, always solves the mystery and no matter what danger she faces, you know that she will triumph in the end.

The Haunted Bridge includes a vacation, an international ring of jewel thieves, an annoying suitor, and of course, a haunted bridge. Even though she's on vacation, Nancy soon enough encounters a mystery and it's up to her to save the day...and a marriage.

4/4/20 age 9 - The story is about a girl named Nancy who goes on an adventure across a "haunted" bridge and solves a hard case and captures them. I loved it! I liked the part where Nancy finds out that the so-called "haunted" bridge wasn't haunted at all. I did not like the part where Nancy sprained her hand!
Words that describe this book: exciting, surprising, entertaining, funny. It was funny when Nancy, Bess, and George found out that what the golf caddies thought was a ghost haunting the old bridge was just an old, old scarecrow with a tattered white cloth blowing around in the breeze. I would recommend this book to mystery and adventure lovers.

This one's interesting because so far as I've read it's the only one that's not what you see is what you get.

Oh, Nancy Drew-you persevere time and again, and this time while winning a golf tournament.

In this installment of the franchise, Nancy is helping her father Carson apprehend a ring of international jewel thieves. To do so, they take a vacation at a golf resort with Bess and George, with Nancy splitting her time between sleuthing and golfing.

By comparison, this story is about par for the course (pun intended) with other Drew mysteries-both nothing exceptional, but the plot holds together enough and the story itself has a bit more character drama than usual.

I've noticed that in my quest to read the original 56 Nancy Drew mysteries, I've become increasingly jaded in my reviews (and general experience of the books). Perhaps it will be good to break up my reading extravaganza with other literature, and return to Nancy when I've had some space.

Definitely a recommended book, but I'm not sure I'd recommend reading all of the previous installments before delving into this one. Only the truly committed should attempt that feat.

Nancy likes golf and sends girls flowers? I see you, Mildred.

Also, this book rocks. The mystery is great and it feels so old-timey (but in a nice way).

Best part of the plot: Nancy fell straight in to a flower bed trying to dodge a slimy guy's flirt. She suffered from hand trauma for the rest of the book. She wasn't even able to dress up without help from her friends. She could play golf like a professional, nevertheless, even through enormous pain.

These Nancy Drew books are my version of a cozy mystery! I love the predictability and consistency in structure and plots. The familiarity is so comforting and pairing that with nostalgia is truly a special experience.

The escapism these novels bring both to adults, YA, and even juvenile readers is really special. It’s a safe place that doesn’t exist in a lot of literature anymore, and I think that’s one reason it seems so timeless. The characterization of Nancy being so admirable- she’s so brave, willing to try anything new or take on any daunting task, she’s intelligent and witty, and she’s so determined- is what every young girl dreams of. The convenient mystery is an excellent bonus too!

#15 “The Haunted Bridge” is particularly eerie with ghost-sightings and ghoulish screams. Plus it features popular characters like Bess and George, Ned, Burt, and Dave too! If you know any young girls who love to golf, this story has some really neat elements of taking place during a golf tournament and like most everything else, Nancy also excels at golfing. She also gets an opportunity to prove her integrity, honesty, and perseverance as she solves this crazy mystery of jewel thieves, a missing treasure, spooky spirits, and a dangerous bridge. The golf elements were a little dry and lingering for me, but for someone interested in the sport, this could be really interesting and intriguing. I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorite ones, but it’s certainly still enjoyable!
