This latest Nancy Drew was quite fun to read and try to figure out for myself. Nancy’s father is searching for some known jewel thieves and in the process enlists Nancy’s help at a local resort. This may be the first time Nancy is solving three mysteries in one book.

While look for evidence of missing jewelry, Nancy joins a golf tournament and attracts the attention of an admirer who is very strange, possibly posing as someone they are not. When one of her special and lucky golf balls is lost, Nancy learns about the haunted bridge and is determined to find out the truth behind it.

Without realizing it, Nancy begins solving all the mysteries at once, slowly piecing together the information with the help of her friends.

Meh.

The book was mostly about Nancy playing golf, the haunted bridge wasn't actually that haunted/spooky, and ended up being very light on the jewel smuggler aspect of the book. Oh, and there was a really obnoxious guy throughout the book who I know Nancy wanted to slap on several occasions.

Reading journal entry #7! This is The Haunted Bridge, a Nancy Drew Mystery!

I haven't individually reviewed most of the Nancy Drew books I've read so far, but I'm committed to this year's reading journal, so here goes! This book, like most Nancy Drew Mysteries, was a fun read! It got me excited to read more after taking a break from the series for a couple months. I wouldn't say it's one of the best, though. I felt the plot was a bit simple and more predictable than some of the others. Bras and George weren't the greatest in this one either. But I did like the huge red herring. On to the next one!

Nancy makes me want to be an amateur sleuth.

This was another fun one! Nancy is tasked with helping her father gather information on a ring of jewel thieves, whilst they're vacationing at a resort. Of course, because Nancy has to be the most Mary Sue character to ever Mary Sue, Nancy also shows off her stellar golf skills (despite never having mentioned golf in any capacity in any previous book). This adds yet another thing on the long list of hobbies and skills she possesses, right next to scuba diving and sailing. Bess and George again accompany her, along with Ned, Burt, and Dave, and her father was a bit more present in this installment as well. There was a definite red herring this time around, which was an interesting writing choice, and it kept me guessing who was responsible until the truth was revealed.

Okay, so we’ve gone from a sailing vacation to a golf resort. Nancy apparently is an excellent golfer (of course) and here we see her qualify for and compete in a tournament. Even though the tournament is not her first priority (duh, sleuthing is always #1), and even though she has an injured hand, she still manages to beat these other (presumably) semi-pro players. Nancy also has to deal with some flirtatious dude who keeps trying to mess with her as she attempts to solve the latest mystery, which involves a buried treasure chest she casually found. One which a local gardener has been searching for forever (there goes Nancy again, defying the odds!) As usual, Nancy is drenched in a rainstorm and falls into a ravine after a bridge collapses. (I’m seriously beginning to think that Nancy’s most useful skill is her ability to swim.). In keeping with ND tradition, people who sustain severe injuries just sleep it off, and Nancy finds time to go to church in the midst of everything else going on.
