Foster is a cop. Craig is co-owner of a pet resort. Their paths should never cross, but fate has other plans. When Foster’s older neighbor gets a disturbing card in the mail from Bark and Purr Pet Resort, she asks Foster to confront the business on her behalf. He isn’t on “official” police business, but he agrees to put a scare into the owners to let them know their correspondence wasn’t appreciated. Little does he know, he is about to meet Craig, the cute owner of Bark and Purr, who is wet, shirtless, and covered in dog fur, he isn’t quite sure he wants to play “bad cop” unless it’s the naughty kind of bad.
Craig is definitely taken aback by the hunky cop in his office. He is still suffering the wounds of his last relationship that left him traumatized and shattered. His broken heart is not prepared to take notice of intimidating man who wants to talk to him about a former employee. However, once he explains to Foster the misunderstanding, they each take notice of the other for more than business reasons.
This book by Bix Barrow is just a breath of fresh air. There are such laugh out loud moments, including rescue from a blind date gone bad, some very touching and heart wrenching back stories, and the side characters are all so much fun and add a lot to the story. And just when you think our pet resort owner will be mild mannered, he shows up in the bedroom as very bossy, a little kinky, and a lot HOT!
The relationships between each MC and his friends/co-workers make this such a fun read and they really add to the story. At times there may have been just a bit “too much” going on with ancillary characters and the drama they brought with them, but all in all I would read more from this author. I truly enjoyed the story, the characters, and the town of Bent Oak, Texas. I can’t wait to read more!

A smart funny and widely appealing romance
I loved Craig and Foster’s funny and heart warming love story. The meet cute - wet and covered in dog hair while meeting a hot cop asking questions - was perfectly adorkable and swoony. As was the resulting smirks and giggles. This is one of those books that I smiled almost the entire time I was reading it. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Foster is a detective in Bent Oak, Texas. Craig is the owner of a pet daycare and boarding business. The story included sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, light danger, and heart squeezing love and it will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. I will definitely be reading more in this series.

Another lovely story in the Bent Oak, Texas series! This time it's about Craig and Foster, who we met briefly in the first book. In that one, they were already a couple, however. So in this book, we go back in time a bit and get to see how they met and fell in love. It was absolutely wonderful and I'm becoming increasingly attached to this entire cast of characters. There's just something about Bix' writing that is intensely relaxing for me. Low angst, sweet, funny romances with just the right amount of angst & suspense just make my brain very very happy.
On to book three!

This is the second book of the series and even though I didn't read the first one I don't feel like I missed anything. It's got wonderful characters with such a fun storyline, sweet, funny, and steamy read.

Enjoyable easy breezy read. I was a bit confused by the whole meeting the threesome at the very end. It was a bit odd and felt as though I should know them and I'd just missed something.

For the second time, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I usually stay away from books that have a lot of suspense and drama in them, but I've found that so far, Bix Barrow has hit the right balance of heavy drama versus easygoing sweetness. I really liked both Craig and Foster, and the side characters were all really fun and added a ton to the plot. I think the pacing was really good, and though this book had a bunch of time skips in it like the first in the series, this time it didn't feel too rushed. I still felt like we got that good character development. This book was truly a delight and I had trouble putting it down. I'm hoping the next book we get to see Malcolm lose that chip on his shoulder and find love!
