Heart Me Up by Bix Barrow
5.0
Foster is a cop. Craig is co-owner of a pet resort. Their paths should never cross, but fate has other plans. When Foster’s older neighbor gets a disturbing card in the mail from Bark and Purr Pet Resort, she asks Foster to confront the business on her behalf. He isn’t on “official” police business, but he agrees to put a scare into the owners to let them know their correspondence wasn’t appreciated. Little does he know, he is about to meet Craig, the cute owner of Bark and Purr, who is wet, shirtless, and covered in dog fur, he isn’t quite sure he wants to play “bad cop” unless it’s the naughty kind of bad.
Craig is definitely taken aback by the hunky cop in his office. He is still suffering the wounds of his last relationship that left him traumatized and shattered. His broken heart is not prepared to take notice of intimidating man who wants to talk to him about a former employee. However, once he explains to Foster the misunderstanding, they each take notice of the other for more than business reasons.
This book by Bix Barrow is just a breath of fresh air. There are such laugh out loud moments, including rescue from a blind date gone bad, some very touching and heart wrenching back stories, and the side characters are all so much fun and add a lot to the story. And just when you think our pet resort owner will be mild mannered, he shows up in the bedroom as very bossy, a little kinky, and a lot HOT!
The relationships between each MC and his friends/co-workers make this such a fun read and they really add to the story. At times there may have been just a bit “too much” going on with ancillary characters and the drama they brought with them, but all in all I would read more from this author. I truly enjoyed the story, the characters, and the town of Bent Oak, Texas. I can’t wait to read more!
