I didn't expect something very culturally sensitive from the I-team series but I guess I should have expected it.
Kat James, a Navajo woman, was the new environmental reporter, taking over Kara McMillan's position in the elite I-Team. Despite being in Denver, she was still very much in-touch with her homeland's culture. Along the way, she discovered the malicious abuse done to the land of her ancestors, of the old Native Americans in Mesa Butte. With the help of Gabe Rossiter, park ranger whose skill was way beyond Spider-Man himself, they discovered the tangled web of lies, betrayal and culture-abuse, all the way finding love with each other's arm.
I love it very much, thus the 5 stars. It was, like I said, very culture sensitive. Clare had given justice on the laws and abuse that happened protecting the natives and their land in what the so-called superior race tried to own. In a world where globalization and modernization happens faster than a blink of an eye, this piece showed what most of us have forgotten, the role of culture in society and the over-all balance of the world. Plus add, the innocent yet steaming and wild romance between James and Rossiter.

Naked Edge, the 4th in the I-Team series was a good and engrossing read--though admittedly there were just some things I didn't like about it much.
It starts off pretty strong, with our MC - Kat - falling to her death only to miraculously survive with the help of Gabe, an off-duty (smoking hot) ranger who happens to see her fall.
Kat was a good, and even better, interesting main character, albeit a slightly annoying one at times. Being half Navajo who's very attached to her culture and their beliefs, Kat is waiting for 'The One' and vows never to have sex before marriage. But all men want sex, right? So she's decided not to date them at all. Now, how do you expect to find The One, Kat dear, if you're not dating? not giving them a chance? Am I the only one who sees the flaw in her logic?... Of course, she doesn't really need to date. The One just walks into her life, and reluctantly they fall in love, skipping the whole actually dating bits.
But, in general, folks, things like that happen only in books. In Real Life, one must go out there and date to find the person they're meant to be with. Trust me, I know. I've been waiting for "the One" to walk into my life for a while now. No such luck.
Which brings me to Gabe, the lone, rock-joke who doesn't date, doesn't have close friends, doesn't believe in love. He's cynical, scarred, and wounded on the inside. Closed off. Numb.
And as a girl who loves those heroes who're reluctant to fall in love, naturally, I loved him.
I will admit, though; every time he said one of those "I'm can't be that man for her" comments I got annoyed - because I knew he was (he is the second MC...). BOOK LOGIC.
My favorite part about the book was definitely the Navajo/Dine aspects of the story. These were very interesting to read and experience and refreshing and new, which is always a good thing.
And the villain of the story? The one who actually did everything, from murder to attempted murder and various occasions? came as a total surprise for me! (I spotted his partners from a mile away, though)
The ending was both great and meh. Yes, I'm the best at making out my mind! lol
What I loved about it was the aftermath of the big fight. It was realistic, and some things had to be sacrificed. But I was also quite disappointed with how quickly their relationship progressed from the moment of confession. True, the situations they were under before allowed them to learn about each other quicker than usual, but still...
Well, they were adorable regardless.
PS. what is it with those I-Team members and life threatening investigations?...

I actually didn't like this book until the very end. I didn't really like gave that much until he was able to admit his feeling for kat. I probably would have given it a lower rating but the ending of this book saved how I felt about it. Best ending of all of the yet

I think these are some of the most ANNOYING characters I've ever read !!
Kat :
- is a virgin (and it seemed like she's completly defined by her virginity ...)
- cried the 3/4 of the book for every and anything (okay I understood when someone she loved died but she's supposed to be a journalist and she cried at the first little threat !!)
- everyone is trying to kill her and she had the survival instinct of a mussel in a pressure cooker
Gabe :
- wants to sleep with Kate but sex is baaaaaaaad / eviiiiiil / how can he even think about it / ohhh the big bad villain he looked at her boobs !!
- basically, he's useless
What a shame because the story was really interesting and I loved reading all these detailed references to Native American culture !!
In short, a HUGE disappointment compared to the previous books ...

Naked Edge
4 Stars
Synopsis:
Following a number of incidents and attacks on Native American land, Navajo I-Team journalist Kat James teams up with park ranger Gabe Rossiter to investigate the causes. As the case heats up and Kat and Gabe's passion for each other intensifies, they both become targets for an enemy who will stop at nothing to prevent them from getting to the truth.
Review:
Another hit from Pamela Clare.
The suspense plot is clever but could have been better developed in terms of clues and evidence. Nevertheless, the story is engaging and the information about the Native American culture and rituals is very well researched and contributes to the overall atmosphere of the book.
Clare is skilled at writing realistic characters from all walks of life, and Kat and Gabe are an exceptional example. Kat is intelligent and knows what she wants while Gabe is tortured and must come to terms with events from his past if he is to move forward with his life. When the two come together, the result is nothing short of explosive.
The secondary characters are interesting and the cameo appearances by characters from previous books is wonderful, especially the rapport between Marc and Julian, which left me with a smile on my face. As in the previous books, the epilogue is also very enjoyable and provides a strong sense of closure.
Clare's book are action packed and exciting. I recommend reading the series in order although they can be read as stand alones as well because each book focuses on a separate couple and crime. Looking forward to Breaking Point next.
