An insightful read, if you're open minded. Distressing stats though on just how much dissonance ruins people's lives.

- The last chapter is all about Trump and how he's like a demagogue. It was written in 2019 so before the election results and that makes it kind of interesting to read.

- Overall it was interesting but sometimes it felt a little wordy and like they maybe needed an editor to help them cut it down some.

- There were some obvious incorrect dates, like 2096, but that may have just been an ebook issue.

I found this book fascinating and it's definitely worth reading, but it left me with an existential question: if all we're constantly trying to deal with cognitive dissonance through confirmation bias and other "remedies," how can we know if we're ever "right"--as opposed to just confirming our preferences? Is the logical extension of this argument that there is no "truth"--only positions that need protecting?

I really enjoyed this book - I get it was informative without being a drag and kept its humour well!

I appreciated the candidness in being upfront about sections of the book that are still a work in progress (Donald Trump), but equally can’t find a reason to not rate this a 5.

bit repetitive in places. was pretty ahead of its time.

does a good job at teaching you how to acknowledge and identify your own dissonance (was absolutely called out in chapter 8).

[irrelevant to the book] it would be interesting to see whether levels of dissonance can be reliably measured and compared across time periods
