This book is perfection! I felt I was watching a fantasy movie like Percy Jackson or shadow hunters.
I can find no fault with this book. The storyline and plot kept me intrigued. I love the representation (Asian and black), the BTS references, the dialogue, the humor. It was all so good. The world building was also easy to understand and follow.
I also love the message. Of how even the ordinary can be extraordinary.
I love the romance aspect as well. It was such a buildup and though it was pure it still made you blush and kick your feet.
Overall, absolutely one of my fav fantasy books đź©·

This book really took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I really ended up loving it. The characters were all very loveable. The main character, while definitely having her faults, is incredibly relatable as someone who’s not extraordinary. I think this might become one of my yearly spooky October reads, I really loved it.
Moderate: Violence
Minor: Torture

This was billed as a quirky coming of age tale but read as a YA dark fantasy romance. I might have enjoyed it more if I had know what it was going in, but I kept waiting for it to be something it wasn’t. As a romantasy it’s a decent foray although a bit convoluted with not enough back story and too many characters. It did not keep my interest.

I don’t have much to say about this one, not bad but not the best. I liked the concept but I just couldn’t really get myself fully immersed in it. Good ending but kind of predictable.

I really enjoyed this book! It mixes the excitement of a post-apocalyptic world with magical surprises. Imagine a world like ours, but with special places called fault lines protected by Guardians. When a Guardian passes away, magic spreads, giving powers to more people. But be careful—some, like Ford, get greedy and want all the magic for themselves!
Sid, just an ordinary teenager, suddenly finds herself in the spotlight when her brother disappears. She teams up with other empowered teens to face the challenges ahead. The story beautifully shows how people reveal their true selves in tough times.
The story itself comes off as a mashup of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Walking Dead, with loads of wild magic. I was hooked by the friendships and Sid's journey to believe in herself. Even when faced with zombies and tough situations, Sid, a transracial adoptee, shows that empathy is a superpower. This book is an exciting adventure that proves kindness and courage can conquer anything! And I definitely laughed out loud a few times, especially with the GIANT Chad...you need to read the book to understand this reference!

This was such a great book. It was on my list before it came out, thanks to the author's Instagram page.
I'm not usually a fan of zombie stories, but I enjoyed this unique take with secret and mysterious magic in a small town. Sid was relatable in a lot of ways - kind of an outcast, insecure and awkward but kind and empathetic. She grew a lot in about a week, and used her feelings to her advantage. I was glad she didn't lose her chance to reconcile with her friends.
Wasley created a group of characters I genuinely cared about and found myself invested in. And Brian! We love a sweet Scorpio who stress bakes. I want to see the spinoff low-stakes series about Brian, Daisy, and Hyacinth being domestic and using their powers to fight minor evils.
Overall, a very good book about surviving an almost-apocalypse using the power of friendship.
