Our main character is the awkward, nerdy girlie inside all of us. I loved her. I loved her delightful awkwardness and her nerdy inserts into conversation. This book deserves more attention!

Something for everyone here! Zombies (sort of), teen romance, apocalyptic events, magic/superpowers, complex characters who are navigating their own shortcomings and grief, and a decisively hate-able villain.

An American Korean teen from an interracial family struggles through zombies and a magic apocalypse in her small town. This book stands out to me particularly for it's themes of found family, love (familial, romantic, friends), and dealing with grief, trauma, and loss in a very real way. The quirky and fun personality of the main character turns this horror novel into a fun and humorous read, despite the hard topics it's covering along the way. Highly recommended!

"Every person makes an impact on some way, average or not. We change one another."

This was a delightful read packed full of sweet heartfelt found family and gooey magic zombies. Between the banter amongst a traumatized group of misfits saving the world and mysterious and unresolved government involvement, I got so many Buffy the Vampire Slayer which was fantastic. I only wish the world building was as developed as the characters - there were a few things that nagged at me that were never addressed.

I was not tracking with what was going on for the majority of this book and never got attached to the story or characters. But there is some unique stuff going on and if you like YA and zombies and magic, you’ll probably like it.

I like the premise but couldn't connect with the writing. Overall, not for me.

***Thank you to NetGalley, Robin Wasley, and Dreamscape Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***
