This book spent a whole lot of time going nowhere. About 60% of it was just filler, repeating the same things over and over and not furthering the plot whatsoever. I liked the writing style well enough, which is what saved it from a 2 star rating. Overall not terrible, obviously the first in a series, but pretty boring and overly repetitive. I probably won't continue on with the series.

This was a free read from Kindle. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, but don't necessarily feel like I wasted my time on it.

There were some glaring issues... For instance, some random guy attempts to rape our heroine in the first few chapters but has nothing to do with the rest of the story (unless there's going to be a reveal in the second book about who he really was).

Foreshadowing was very heavy handed. I had an inkling very early on where she would find her consort, and I was right. The book could have done with some more subtleties.

I was surprised when it ended, it was rather abrupt. I'm curious about the next book, but I've skimmed some reviews and don't know that I'm curious enough to keep going. It was a fun, fluffy read, but... so many books, so little time.

Downloaded a book on my kindle with 12 paranormal stories. This was the first one in it. It just sucked me in and was sooo good. Also it is set in Jerome, AZ. I love it when I'm familiar with the area.

The writing is fine and it is the beginning of a story but the first 'book' is really just the first part of a story leading up to the inciting incident which happens at the 90% mark. Since book 1 was free, no big deal but some readers might be bored (lots of filler and not much story) and do just as well to start with book 2.

I love books like this. I love them even more when they're set in places I'm familiar with in real life which adds another level of magic to them.

I’ll make this short and sweet. Darkangel was the first book in a free collection of 13 different paranormal books, and it was actually pretty good. I’m surprised. It may have been a bit clichè and more than a bit strange, but it was still fun and it kept me entertained throughout my plane ride. I’ll probably continue the series. Thank you to Amazon Kindle for the free book!!

Good quick listen as an audiobook.
Good story and romance it just took a bit long to get there.

What I liked about this book was how nostalgic it felt. Something about it felt like it was taking place in the late '90s or early 2000s, like it was the pilot episode of an old favorite show or the first book in an old favorite series. Every time something modern was mentioned, like Netflix or a Keurig, it was a jarring reminder that it's set closer to the present day.

However, although it felt nostalgic in a good way, it also read like one of those series that you used to love, but looking back it actually wasn't that great. The plot was drawn out and there wasn't a lot of action or conflict. The characters weren't particularly memorable. I kept waiting for something to happen, for a big fight or a betrayal, but nothing really did.

I am a little bit curious to see what happens, as the first book ends in a cliffhanger, but not curious enough to continue on with the series.

This falls somewhere between 3 & 3.5 stars.

I read this as part of a group of an 11 book bundle from Kindle and naturally it ends on a cliffhanger! It may be a Kindle formatting thing, but I had an issue with the scene changes and that there was no spacing between paragraphs when that happened so I was briefly confused each time it happened.

Over all I liked this and zoomed through it a lot faster than some of the other things in this bundle. It reminded me of a combination of Practical Magic and Charmed with bits & pieces of A Discovery of Witches (the All Souls Trilogy) thrown in. Angela was not ignorant of her powers (like on Charmed), but she reminded me a lot of Piper when they lost Prue and she was sort of set adrift for a while. Angela is definitely not as mentally strong as any of the Halliwells and in that aspect reminded me a little more of Sally from Practical Magic--not so much reluctant to use her power, but just not completely comfortable in the roll she is set to play.

I would like to read the next books, but as they are not in the $0.99 (or free) category at the moment & the library only has audiobooks (no thanks), that won't happen for a while.
