Obviously, after the ending to Unremembered I had to read unforgotten and I am glad that I did although at one point the book dropped from 4 starts to 3 stars and then it made me give it 3 stars again.
Unforgotten started off with Sera explaining about how the fire she was in felt. At first I thought it was telling the reader what was happening to Sera after she jumped off the cliff at the end of Unremembered.
After the prologue we find out that Seraphina and Zen finally managed to escape from Diotech and get their happy ever after in 1609 like they had been planning for a while.
Sera and Zen have a nice life at the start of the story living with Mr and Mrs Patterson and their children Thomas, James, Myles and Little Jane.
Zen worked with Mr Patterson with the general upkeep of the farm, the plowing, sowing and reaping of crops while Sera helped Mrs Patterson with the housekeeping and looking after the animals and because Sera is genetically engineered she has to be extra careful while doing her chores this means taking her time to count between steps as she can move extra fast, bringing in firewood and the harvest bit by bit instead of in one go because she can't use her super strength while the whole time Mrs Patterson keeps a very close eye on her, Sera believes that Mrs Patterson senses that She is different.
Zen is loved by the family and they all love the stories that he makes up, while Sera pretends to Zen that everything is fine and that she does not have a problem she is really suffering from gut wrenching nightmares.
Zen tried to teach Sera how to fight instead of letting her flight instinct take over at night when the Patterson family are asleep but instead of attacking Zen, Sera's instinct kicks in and she runs, until one day when Zen changes things around and she does attack.
Not long after this their perfect life starts to go down hill when Zen becomes sick and they don't know what is wrong with him and Mrs Patterson who is already suspicious of Sera notices her 'tattoo' and screams about Sera working with the devil Zen however tells the family a story about how Sera got the 'tattoo' and everyone except Mrs Patterson believes him.
A while later Sera and Zen go into the local town to the market while at the market Sera uses her super speed and strength to save Zen from being crushed and everyone at the market see's Sera using these unnatural abilities and she gets arrested.
Once Sera is arrested she is accused of being a witch and is sentenced to death by being burnt to death. While in her cell before her last day she get s visit from a priest who later manages to save her from the fire and takes her to 2032.
After being rescued she realizes that the guy who came to her cell before her sentence was to be taken place, was the guy who saved her from the fire, he turns out to be a genetically modified person just like her only he is stronger and faster than Sera.
Kalen took Sera to 2032 because he needs her to help him get a cure to save their creator and Zen.
After spending time triggering the clues to get the cure Sera finds ends up bumping into Cody because that's where a clue takes her and he helps Sera look after a sick Zen, one of the clues takes her to Maxxer who planted the time triggered clues into Sera's brain and she manages to gets the cure which she plans to use on Zen.
Once Maxxer puts the cure down for Sera another trigger is triggered and she starts to attack Maxxer and Kalen ends up turning up at Maxxer's hidden home just after the attack and he ends up in a cell and Sera rescues him and they go back to Diotech.
I really enjoyed this book and it would have gotten 5 stars if Sera and Zen got to live happily ever after away from Kalen and Diotech but Sera ended up in the hands of Diotech and from reading the blurb for Unchanged she does not manage to escape and be with Zen who is now stuck in 2032.
Although Seraphina is stuck back at the Diotech Lab and will not be with Zen (as far as we know right now) I cannot wait until Unchanged in released next year.

All the time travel was lots of fun, but I was kind of sad Zen wasn't in the book as much. Then of course the dreaded love triangle happens & the end of the book kind of makes me sad! Poor Zen, I heart you. Sera had to make some tough decisions & I will be interested to see what happens next.

Characters, man! It's all about the characters for me! And Miss Jessica Brody didn't only reach my incredibly high standards for 'great characters', but even surpassed it! And that's a very hard thing to do. Because I'm picky. And negative. But whatever.
First we have the complicated Sera, who is the leading lady for our story, and I think she is the epitome of well-written YA female heroines.
There's a huge, constant war of how our girls should act and think in novels. Some say "They should be soft-spoken and pretty and happy!", while other's say "She should have two guns and should scowl a lot and not take no crap from anybody!"
Now I think that these both are fair suggestions, along with all of the other arguments that are going on for female characters, but, honestly, there shouldn't be a debate on what YA girls SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be. Each characters is different, as each person is, and who they are is who they are, whether they have big daggers or a fluffy stuffed bunny.
But Sera is like this magical combination of all of them. She's kind and caring but strong and stubborn, but it's never annoying. I hate the characters that act all big and bad, like "Don't even look at me the wrong way or this bullets going in your face!", because, honestly, where's the character in that? Women can be whoever they want to be, but there is a line that crosses that--even if it was a male character, I guarantee I would still roll my eyes.
Sera has so many good qualities, and it's thoroughly interesting just to see what she's thinking and find out more and more of who she is. I love Sera. Obviously.
Then we have the wonderful Zen who, honestly, is one of the best written male love interests I've ever read. He's not just there to make this book a romance--he's there as a character who is loyal and funny and just all around perfect. And I shipped he and Sera with all of my giant, feelsy heart, until...
Until Kaelen.

Yes the size IS necessary. Deal with it.
Even when I shouldn't have, I loved this character. I fell for him at the very beginning and now he has to be my absolute favorite out of them all.

He's just so freakin' adorable and--Nope. I can't say anything else without spoiling something. literally his entire existence is a huge spoiler. Just know that I have an undying love for him. Just know. Ah.
The plot in this one is probably even quicker and more shocking then the first one, and THAT'S saying something. I was gasping and staring at the pages, and I finished the entire second half in one sitting because I literally couldn't stop.
THAT ENDING THO!
We see some awesome, familiar characters, and get introduced to some epic new one's, and the threats are higher and the danger is for real intense. It's full of romance and beautifully woven words and action-packed excitement. It's full of great, unique characters and realistic, rough lives that jump out of the page and slap you upside the head with the book. Like I still have a bruise. Seriously.

Quite a dramatic read with a little more romance than I personally enjoy. Very over exaggerated characters. The future is very unbelievable and it’s full of plot holes. Did I still enjoy it…yes I did.

"After a daring escape from the Diotech scientists who created her, Seraphina believes she is finally safe from the horrors of her past. But new threats await Sera and her boyfriend Zen, at every turn as Zen falls prey to a mysterious illness and Sera's extraordinary abilities make it more and more difficult to stay hidden. Meanwhile, Diotech has developed a dangerous new weapon designed to apprehend Sera. A weapon that even Sera will be powerless to stop. Her only hope of saying Zen's life and defeating the company that made her is a secret buried deep within her mind. A secret that Diotech will kill to protect. And it won't stay forgotten for long." - Quote from inside front cover of my hardback copy of [b:Unforgotten|9791902|Unforgotten (Unremembered, #2)|Jessica Brody|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375283935s/9791902.jpg|14681987] by [a:Jessica Brody|1164465|Jessica Brody|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1201278268p2/1164465.jpg].
I was sadly not as thrilled with [b:Unforgotten|9791902|Unforgotten (Unremembered, #2)|Jessica Brody|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375283935s/9791902.jpg|14681987] as I had been with the first book in the series, [b:Unremembered|9791892|Unremembered (Unremembered, #1)|Jessica Brody|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342834815s/9791892.jpg|14681975]. There were several parts in the book where the story line seemed to drag along. I actually had to force myself to continue reading rather than skip ahead and find out what happened to Sera and Zen.
The book did not end the way I was wanting it to but there is a third and final book in the series so there is time for things to go the way I want them to.
All in all, I would give [b:Unforgotten|9791902|Unforgotten (Unremembered, #2)|Jessica Brody|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375283935s/9791902.jpg|14681987] a rating of 3.25 stars. Since Goodreads does not yet allow it's raters to rate books by the half or quarter star, I decided to round down to the 3 stars.

Since I finished reading Unremembered I have been desperate to read Unforgotten, I wanted it there and then but had the torturous wait of a whole twelve months before I got a copy of Unforgotten in my hands, and what a fantastic bookish day it was when I got the book through my door.
****Before I begin this review I am warning you now that it will contain spoilers for the previous book and possibly for this one, so carry on reading at your own risk****
Zen and Seraphina have escaped Diotech and have found safety in 1609, working at a farm in exchange for food and a place to stay. This is a difficult for Sera, adjusting to this new year with its strict ways of life, but also trying to be human and fit into their way of life too. Zen is there to help, finding it easier to settle in himself, and with Zen's help they are able evading difficult questions with tales of sword fights, ships, and the open sea. What starts out peaceful, quickly becomes sour, and Sera finds herself out of the frying pan and literally into the fire. I felt sick with nerves over what was going to happen worried that there would be no way out for Sera, and worrying over what would happen to Zen.
The plot thickens continuously throughout Unforgotten, and when you think everything is OK, that reality is quickly pulled away and you are faced with a whole new reality, a new situation, and a whole new problem to face. Not once do you think everything will be OK and that Sera and Zen will be safe, and that they will find each other again. The last clue that Sera has to find shocked me, I wasn't expecting this person at all, and in my mind I had a small list of other people that it could be. I loved getting to see what happened to this person and seeing their life now.
Kaelen was someone who I wanted to love and hate all at the same time. There were moments that I wanted to push him off a cliff and let him deal with the consequences, and times when I wanted to give him a hug for what he does, and yes I know this is extremely vague, but I want you to experience the same conflicting emotions that I experienced whilst reading Unforgotten.
One of my favourite parts in Unforgotten was the futuristic aspect to it, how everything is run and all the technology that is around, it definitly sounds like its a safer and easier way of life.
Seraphina experiences so much in Unforgotten it was hard to believe she found the strength within to carry on, to keep fighting for Zen and for what she believes in. Seeing how far she has come since Unremembered and seeing how hard she fights her programmed instincts is no easy feat for her. In fact a lot of the time I actually forgot she wasn't human, that she was manufactured and programmed in the future.
Reading Unforgotten was one amazing journey. Jessica Brody certainly knows how to not only keep you on your toes, but also keep you questioning what will happen next. Unforgotten was a truly unforgettable read, and after the ending I need to read the next book now. I can't believe we have to wait till next year to find out what happens next.

This was quite the sequel, and not at all like the first book. We have many questions answered and even more raised. I thought the ending was flawed, but it leads to more action in the future. I absolutely loved this novel and I definitely recommend this to fans of the first book.

I’m disappointed to say that I still had trouble feeling the romantic connection between Zen and Sera. This book would have had much more of an impact (especially the ending) if I could have been more into the romance. I’m yet again disappointed by this. I love romance! Heck, I felt more of a connection between Sera and Kaelen.
Other than that, the story was very good and interesting. I had a bit of a difficult time staying completely captivated near the beginning of the book. I’m not sure why. As I read more and more, though, I became more and more captivated and I didn’t want to put it down at the end.
There was really only one main addition to the characters and that was Kaelen, who I actually liked quite a bit. He’s another, newer version of Sera, so he takes some getting used to, but I actually liked him right away for some reason.
I’m also pleased to say that while this book is the second in a trilogy, it did not feel like a filler book like so many do! Yay!
The next book will be very interesting to read! I’m looking forward to it.
