How does she do it? Katie Fforde has little character development, no suspense, little originality, and not much else, but I just keep reading her! AH well. It has been a busy few weeks!

Perfect holiday reading. I thought I'd find Sophie annoying, letting herself be walked all over, but actually, she's pretty tough and well in control.

Another delightful outing from Ms. Fforde. It was interesting to see the US from a Brit's POV, though my favorite parts of her books are always the glimpses of English life.

Sophie at 22 years of age is the youngest of her siblings, kindhearted and under-appreciated especially with her family. Having to get away Sophie travels to New York for a temp job where circumstances place her at the right place at the right time to rescue a rich elderly woman. Her grandson is suspicious of Sophie's motives. Luke comes from a very wealthy family and has been burned by love in the past.
This is a lighthearted and sweet romance. I enjoyed this book for what it was. I would have liked to get inside Luke's head as he seemed reserved and you don't know what he is thinking and even Sophie's feelings towards Luke where subtle. There is an easy writing style which makes for really easy reading.

I think the reason why I didn't particularly enjoy this book is because it was so predictable and the main character was so spineless and a little annoying. She basically spends the entire book letting people walk all over her and acting as though she is a simple girl. (A simple girl who seems pretty obsessed with money)
Another problem is that the love interest is unlikeable and douche-y, whose only redeemable quality (if you can call it that) is that he's rich. The final problem with this entire thing it that the title gives up what's going to happen… the douche-bag rich guy is going to propose to the spineless uneducated poor girl. Color me shocked.
On a complete side note, I know that the author was trying to make the main character sound like she was über creative and whatnot, but every time she described what she was wearing I imagined just the worst most terrible outfits with feathers poking out and loose hems tied together. Not a good look.

A new romance from Katie Fforde is like hiding away in a sunny window seat with a cup of tea and some little fairy cakes. I always look forward to her books. I do prefer those with older, slightly less naive heroines than Sophie, however, although that may be a reflection of where I am in my life rather than the quality of the author's work. For these reasons, Wild Designs is still my favourite Katie Fforde novel!
