I particularly enjoyed this Jo Nesbo book, maybe more than the last one I remember reading... was that the Devil's Star? I have a feeling it follows on from this book given some of the ongoing story in Nemesis was resolved in Devil's Star. This comes of not reading a series in order, but I don't think that's too much of a problem with these books as there is always a good, independent murder mystery to get your head around. Or two in this case. There's a very well planned bank robbery that goes to the extreme and sees one of the cashiers being shot in the head for seemingly no better reason than that the manager was too slow (by a few seconds) in getting the cash out. And Harry Hole meets up with an old flame, gets off his face with the booze, loses 12 hours and later finds out that during said lost time, old flame was shot in the head. Not the best position to in when you're a police detective, especially when you're an awkward alcoholic old grump who doesn't get on with a large proportion of colleagues.

I'm not at work this week so I've been able to stick with the book when I've felt like it, and despite its chunky size I have fair raced through it. Very entertaining, and you know there's more when it seems as though everything has been solved, and yet there is a chunky bit of the book left to read. Oh, twists upon turns upon twists!

Another good page turner from Jo Nebro. I wish more of his books had been translated into English.

Juuust short of too convoluted, so many twists and turns that at one point, I went back and reviewed the beginning of the book because I got confused about one character and his relationship to the rest of the storyline. Harry's a great character, entertaining to say the least. I would say I enjoyed this novel slightly less than The Redbreast, mostly because it was SO twisty that it was borderline unbelievable at times. Still a solid 4 stars, interested to see if things continue to get crazier in the next of this series..

This is my second Harry Hole novel and I couldn't put it down. It is well written and fast paced. I liked the fact that just when you think the case is solved Nesbo pulls the rug out from under you. I'm really looking forward to the other books in the series but as I have a pile of library books demanding my attention I better put Harry on hold for now.

Getting excited. If these first two books are anything to go by, I'm going to be a big Nesbo fan. I hope Harry Hole appears in more than just the Oslo trilogy, I'm beginning to warm to him.

Fab book, great plot, nicely tied in with The Redbrest as well....Time to start The Devils Star

A Norwegian detective's former lover dies and he is the last to see her. The book has several other sub plots and is a good read

Once again, Nesbo delivered a complex detective story peopled with characters whose motives and imperfections collide.

This is my favorite (superseded by Redeemer, which I read later) in the series, more than a page-turner, it is spellbinding. Just when you think you understand...

Finally, I read a book by Jo Nesbo! Been intending to get into this series for ages now! I really enjoyed this book.

It was very different from what I expected. I thought this book would be more like the psychological thrillers I read all the time. But the story has a lot more action than I expected. I am not usually into that kind of thing; however, it worked well in this story!

Harry is a pretty fascinating protagonist. He is tortured but I like that he can be petty at times and freely admits to it. I love his dry sense of humor and like that he thinks of himself as old, although he is only in his 30s!!! He is fun to read about! :-)

I am not sure how the other characters play into this series as this is the only "Harry Hole" book I have read. But I like Beate and Halvorsen a lot. Waaler was sufficiently loathsome and I am guessing he will make a reappearance.

I am sorry that I waited so long to get into this series! I better request the next one from the library ASAP! :-)

NEMESIS, book four in the Harry Hole series is a complex police procedural that finds the deeply troubled and flawed detective dealing with personal issues (the death of an ex-lover, alcoholism, and a current relationship) while at the same time trying to do his job, in this case, solve a robbery that ended with the murder of the bank teller.

This book is a lot, with so many characters and layers that at the times I found I had to go back and reread to refresh my memory of how a certain person or event fit into the story.

I didn’t start this series from the beginning, but I am glad I went back to the first book to see the development of the characters and their relationships to each other.
