I absolutely loved this book. I felt like the characters were well developed, the scenery was gorgeous, and the story was wonderful. I loved the added story about Ruthie, the grandmother and Spider dealing with her issues. That’s something that you don’t see very often. I was definitely transported to the beautiful Adirondacks. I would have loved to be brave enough to join the girls there. If you need an escape from everyday life read The Girls of July.

I really wanted to like this book, but for something purporting to be about a close, almost familial friendship between four girls, I got none of that. Only Spider and Britta's relationship felt fleshed out. Meredith spent the whole book with her boyfriend, and Kate was babysitting a five-year-old. After the first few days, they spent time together as the four of them exactly twice. At the end, when they were all talking about close they are, it all felt so hollow. They barely felt like friends at all, let alone family.

This was a nice story, but it felt forced, unrealistic, and/or cheesy at times. The reader was not trusted to figure out the meaning for themselves.

“It is hard to know how to save the world if one has never lived in it.”

3,5 stars!

I was highly entertained while listening to this audiobook. The story of 4 strangers coming together and how they become friends is just something that really interests me. I like Spider's story the most to follow along with. I must say I often forgot about Meredith until her chapter came up again, she just had a very generic storyline. Kate's narrator sounded like someone who had a midlife crisis instead of a 17(?) year old. Other than that, I had a good time and felt like the story was trying to teach you a good lesson

Once Upon a Book Club selection.
At first I did not think I would like this book. I ended up being charmed by it and sped through the last half of the book far more than I had the first half. Everything ends up neatly tied together, but it is a sweet story.
