This is the prequel of the Fabian Risk series.

Ahnhem has produced a marvellous work, indeed. A tightly woven plot takes the reader through a series of events which at first would appear unconnected, but eventually all the threads are drawn together in a well-crafted denouement.

Ahnhem's characters are rounded, very human and very believable. His mastery of the environment in which the action takes place is commendable. The prose is ideally suited to the subject matter (even in translation) and never intrudes, but flows naturally.

Fabian Risk is a welcome addition to the much-loved collection of Scandinavian detectives, and I look forward to his next adventure.

Definitely a must-read for all lovers of good detective fiction and highly recommended.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found it a little hard to get into at first. It wasn't anything to do with the story but just because of all the games being foreign. It was hard to keep in mind just who everyone was for a time. However, once I was used to this I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and the characters. The plot kept me wanting to turn the pages to find out what was going on and I would definitely be willing to give other books by this author a go.
