The Ninth Grave by Stefan Ahnhem

4.0

This is the prequel of the Fabian Risk series.

Ahnhem has produced a marvellous work, indeed. A tightly woven plot takes the reader through a series of events which at first would appear unconnected, but eventually all the threads are drawn together in a well-crafted denouement.

Ahnhem's characters are rounded, very human and very believable. His mastery of the environment in which the action takes place is commendable. The prose is ideally suited to the subject matter (even in translation) and never intrudes, but flows naturally.

Fabian Risk is a welcome addition to the much-loved collection of Scandinavian detectives, and I look forward to his next adventure.

Definitely a must-read for all lovers of good detective fiction and highly recommended.
