The book was really good but the fact that I kind of knew who did it so early on was too big of a con.

A clever, twisty, and twisted, detective mystery, but why would Hary Hole, a native of Oslo, born in 1965, mention a "foot and a half of snow", instead of half a metre of snow?

Frequently the quality of books like these, translated from their original language, rely heavily on the skill of the translator. Fortunately, the translator here was solid. A good mystery, with plenty of twists (with only a few eye rolls at how non-rational and impulsive a "successful" detective is here), and a confirmation that wow, those Norwegians can come up with some twisted stuff.

throughout the whole book, I kept thinking "wth am I reading?" It was either boring or graphic, which I don't care for. The last ~10% was by far the best part. Way too long. Only forced myself to finish to fulfill a category for reading challenge.

Spoiler alert!!! ************************************************************************************************************************************I was disappointed in this, it's supposed to be a crime classic and the author indulged in the thriller trope I HATE the most. Multiple fake out endings. It just makes it look like the author couldn't figure out and ending, and it makes the characters look really stupid. Most of the fake out suspects were really stupid. One fake ending happened halfway through the book, what was the point ? At the halfway through the book, we know that's not the right guy. Another suspect was a woman, the crimes were CLEARLY committed by a man, they were vicious, and personal and committed against a specific type of woman. It's a man. Another issue? The type of victim had to be identified through specific information, it wasn't something that could just be known, meaning they should have kept their suspects focused on persons connected to health care who had access to their personal health info. Most of their suspects had no such access, which means yeah. The author made Harry and his colleagues look extremely stupid and wildly accusing anyone even remotely connected with the case. Uggh. Like I said, so disappointed. What a sloppy ending.

The seventh novel in Jo Nesbø's series, again another different story and in this one Norway has a serial killer.

A young boy wakes up to discover his Mother missing and when going outside to look for her discovers a snowman in the front garden adorning her favourite pink scarf. Thus beginning the hunt which reveals that over the years many wives and Mothers have gone missing, mainly across Oslo and Bergen, never to be seen again. Let the battle commence.

Harry is up against a very intelligent individual and this shows with the many suspects identified along the way before finally the Snowman is revealed.

If you are a fan of Scandinavian authors I would recommend this series. It's probably the best one to date 4/5.
