By far the oldest book I’ve ever read (1873). It hasn’t aged great, but the sense of adventure is enjoyable. I’d love to read the same concept, set in the same era, minus the racism.

Fun little read (or listen, in my case). Light and silly and just about 6 hours long.

The best way to write a Mary Sue character is to make the protagonist his constantly bewildered and dumbfounded servant

I read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne a little while ago and found it quite dull so I wasn't expecting much from this, but I really enjoyed this one!
Published in 1872, our routine-loving protagonist Phileas Fogg makes a bet with some friends that he can travel around the world in 80 days (obviously before the use of aeroplanes). He's joined on his journey by his loyal valet Passepartout and together they run into all sorts of situations, always racing against the clock.
If you like to travel, I think you'll like this story a lot.

What an imagination! I want to give Jules Verne another try, this dragged on just a bit. However, I'm definitely going to read more of his stories.

An enjoyable and fast-paced adventure and an interesting time-capsule, weighed down by the instances of outdated and outright racist descriptions of some people and cultures.
