One Sentence Summary: Max establishes herself in a parallel universe and deals with the various anomalies caused by herself and people from the current timeline.

Squeeworthy Bits: Peterson getting the bubonic plague. It's more fun than it sounds. MUCH more.

Points of Observation: Farrell 2.0 lacks the "I want to murder him now and bury his body" characteristics of Farrell 1.0, what with him not having called a distressed Max a whore and/or heartless bitch. Huge bar to clear I know. Nevertheless, he remains an unspectacular character who's only actively enjoyable when he's trading banter with Max. Barclay 2.0, to my utter mystification, remains obsessed with him. Also, as far as antagonists go, TI\ime Police > Ronan.

Verdict: Another fun installment of St.Mary's hijinks, made all the more palatable by the absence of Farrell 1.0 & Ronan from the picture.

Another solid entry to the ever-readable St Mary's chronicles. As is always the case, it is difficult to review whilst avoiding spoilers.

The cliffhanger at the end of book three is neatly resolved although some may, like me, be left wishing for a more intelligent solution and your subsequent level of engagement with the whole book will hinge on how you view this.

Putting that to one side, though, and what we have is another rapid-moving, tightly-plotted story with some wonderful dialogue from the central characters. Max is at her wise-cracking best. For the first half at least.

The second half is less pacy but the story is still a compelling one and those who have stuck with the series this far will find much to enjoy.

I am looking forward to February's fifth installment as I have a grown to like these well-crafted characters and I do hope Jodi is able to keep the level of interest high.

Another whirlwind adventure with the gang at St Mary's although not the St Mary's we have grown to love its another St Mary's where the characters are the same but different. At the end of the last book Max was thrust into this different reality by Mrs Peacock and in my review then I said I wasn't sure if I was going to like how this went. This instalment is my least favourite so far and its because of the whole Time Police/ oh no there is a threat to the characters and the place we love plot line. Its like when a television series feels like it is losing viewers so all of a sudden there is a threat to the team. The team has an arch nemesis or may be split up or something dramatic like that. But despite not liking the overarching story of this volume it was well written and it contained the characters I love. Max is fast becoming a favourite fictional character of mine because she is just so real. Also it was good to get some more information about her unhappy childhood which had just been alluded to in previous books.

A good fun story, Jodi Taylor's pacing improves infinite amounts the further along into the series we go. Really enjoyed it, the skips around history were fun but I found myself missing a bit long stretch of time spent in a given period. That's where Taylor really excels, when her knowledge of history can shine through chapters while advancing the plot. Enjoyed it a bit less than A Second Chance, but that's such a gut wrenching and excellent book it's almost hard to beat it. Very much looking forward to the next one, this book almost felt like it was setting up the next bit of the series. Not the strongest in the series but a fun romp

This is probably the best one in the series so far. A tight sequence of events with the ever endearing Max and her adventures in St Marys.
It was a real relief (even if predictable) when the "twist" happened at the end, because you really do care about these characters. Thoroughly easy to read and a good ole adventure through time.

I am really not pleased with the "twist" of this one. I thought it would be a temporary situation, and then by the end go back to normal. So I'll say I am disappointed, overall.

Funny and sad.

It didn't develop the characters quite so much here.

You know it really is something fighting of the Time Police. Those bastards and their sick black combat gear. Also who doesn't like Aten? I mean he's a little handsy, sorry bad Egyptian god joke.
