As a lesbian I found this book so interesting due to how hard it is to escape male influence in sapphic dynamics. I liked this, and will say this is the most sexual a book can be without being classified as smut. I wasn’t horny reading this, just sad.

completely gray is how i’d describe this book. you’d think it’d be making a sharp and clear point because of the theme and it’s graphic descriptions of sex, but instead, it leaves you (or maybe just me) wondering where i stand and who i stand with. you are left to make the decision for yourself, or simply understand that sexuality, identity and relationships can be gray areas.

i don’t see myself within any of the three main characters. but that made it interesting. i agree with other reviewers who said the monologues of Eve and the other characters felt a little empty — like they were *almost* saying something important, but in the end, weren’t. a little frustrating, but i feel like i’ll be thinking about this book for a while.

Challenging to read because all characters are purely unlikable. But the book asked a lot of interesting questions about sex and sexual relationships between people and with one self.

Ugh hated this.

The characters are all vapid, pretentious pricks .
The sex scenes are a just long waffle of nothing.
The book claims to be about womanhood, queerness, sexuality but it's just about two womens obsession with an arrogant man.

I hate the Sally Rooney-esque rich bored white girl in their 20s trope

The characterization is really well done. I found it to be an uncomfortable read because of some experiences I had in my early twenties, but it wouldn't be uncomfortable if it wasn't so real. Four or five stars for the writing, one or two stars for personal enjoyment, I think.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I cannot believe how much I hated this book. Don’t be fooled by the NYU author bullshit that this is some grand exploration about sexual desire and bisexuality. In fact I think it does a huge disservice to the bisexual community.

This book is about two women who are manipulated by a sociopath and are perfectly content with it???

Maybe I am just far too gay to believe that a man is that amazing at sex that these two women would simply just be okay with the way he treats them?

Nathan was by far the worst but honestly I didn’t care about any of these characters. I’m glad Romi left Eve, and Fatima was the only one with common sense in this book.

Also if this was going for kink as well, idk there’s nothing like about a man being dominant that’s kink to me since it’s the expected gender role, but again I might be too much of a lesbian to get it.

The two women maybe just also remind me too much of people I know that have money and need to do something crazy to make it seem like they’re interesting or have a personality.

This might be my harshest review of the year but it was only because I was so excited for this and it did nothing but disappoint.

not everyone would get it but EYE did!

“i wondered how i could get what he had—absolute freedom, a life of embodied prowess, in which i might float through a landscape of love and sex without promising myself to anyone.”

honestly? it had some pretty good points and themes, but, at the same time, it was pretty lesbophobic and very misogynistic. it's a shame that even lesbians have to chase male recognition and validation.

i really don't know how to structure my review. it felt as if a teenage boy had to write about his sexual fantasies and that hurt me as i've met such behaviour from men everytime I mention I'm into girls. it's disrespecting.

ignoring those comment, the book had my attention, although I couldn't care less about the characters' sexual activities and would have loved to skip the details but yea.

one last thing:
it's not okay for him to have a work relationship but to gaslight, abuse and mistreat women is okay? okay, cool, good to know. fuck him.
