Another flop by the author. He has good intentions but goes against his own prior advice as the whole book is now of “man the fuck up” variety. The writing is authentic but uninspiring. The advice is very basic.

There were a lot of really great parts to the book, unfortunately there were quite a few parts that were just flat out offensive like Untrue stereotypes. Especially disturbing because he is a therapist.

Overall this is a good read for a guy who is wanting to grow and looking for a place to start. The author writes as if he is having heart to heart with another guy. A friend telling a friend not what he wants to hear but what might help him get what he wants.

This is a book written for men. I knew it was going into it but I wanted to read it anyway. I think because of that I'm rating it lower as not all of it was useful for me but I do believe it would be a great guys read if the goal is growth and change. That said, my bf picked it up and bought it to read for him but I wanted to know what Therapist John Kim had to say and honestly it's what I have tried to communicate to my bf about some things so I'm hoping he does end up reading it. There were also parts in the book I felt spoke to me that caused me to pause reflect about my actions or reactions.

Read as a potential recommendation to my cis hetero male therapy clients. Wonderful, vulnerable straight to the point therapeutic advice for men. I appreciate John’s distinction between his own lived experience and research guidance. Also, such a great counter to all the “Joe Rogan” and “Andy Frisella” bros in this world.

Bought this book as a 21st birthday gift for my little brother. Really wanted to find a book geared towards young men that was a more to the point and quick read. A bit counter intuitive since this author is in his 40s looking back, but overall I thought it was a funny, witty, and thought provoking read, and gifted it with my recommendation in the hopes that those who read it live a life that never makes them look back and think “man I used to be a miserable fuck.”

Every Man should read this book, you owe it to the women (and other men) in your life.

I truly believe reading this has made me a better man. Some of the chapters really hit home and make you realise how much better you can be.

Excellently written and some stories included that make you feel he is directly talking to you

This book is definitely written for a male audience (the author frequently makes references to what it means to be a man, expectations that society places on males, etc.) given that, I really hope to not see any whiny comments from women about the intended audience for this book because overall it is a really good book with lots of an awesome ideas - even if you’re not a man. For me I found a lot of “12 step” program parallels which isn’t surprising given the author has a background in treating addiction and at-risk teens. Anyone familiar with Brenè Brown and/or 12 step programs will find lots of parallels to the messages throughout the novel, without the author truly ever coming out and saying it ... I think it makes people unfamiliar with the concepts accept the message a little easier than they would otherwise. Overall I enjoyed the book, I enjoyed the stories, I enjoyed the message, and the lessons.
