Some of the essays are funnier than others, as you'd expect, but every one made me laugh out loud at least once.

I think these hype reviews like 'HILARIOUS!!!' really mislead me, I don't find this kind of humor Hilarious in the slightest.

When I first started reading this book I just couldn't connect with it, I couldn't relate. Of course I couldn't, I'm a white British girl on the East Coast of England living in a rural village. But that's the point, I'm trying to ensure I don't restrict myself to reading stories about... Well, myself. I want to learn and know other people.

However, despite struggling to begin with, I actually suddenly found myself smiling and nodding along, agreeing and understanding. I LOVE to read about women who are able to put into words the things I've struggled with and experienced, things I didn't realise other people struggled with, things I hadn't found the words for.

I also loved learning about Samantha's life and experiences in the publishing world.

So I didn't find it HILARIOUS. it was way better than that - enjoyable, real, surprisingly relatable, funny and quirky, really interesting and more.

Samantha Irby reminds you that your totally gross, imperfect life is perfectly normal.

I really needed to laugh and this book delivered. Irby is very good at turning personal and often painful experiences into comedy. Nothing is sacred nor too private for her to divulge. Her curmudgeony attitude and constant self-deprecation may turn some people off, but I'm always here for it. I've now listened to all of Irby's books in audio form and I recommend you do the same - listening to her narrate her own life in such a withering, sarcastic tone only enhances the experience.

I love Irby (in a non-creepy, reader of her work kind of way), and would listen to her read pretty much anything she writes. This one didn't disappoint, though "We Are Never Meeting In Real Life" remains my forever fave. Congrats to a rock star writer on a third book!
