I liked this book, but was a little disappointed with some of the character development for the protagonist, Patience. When we last left her, she was an atheist. When we return to her, she's church going and no explanation is ever given. That was the most glaring example of the lack of development for this character, but in general I felt like she could have had more depth in this book.

This is the 3rd book in the series. While I really enjoyed the previous 2 books, this one was dull.

Another well-written piece of historical fiction, addressing the prevailing issues of the WWII era, including pacifism and POW camps. A down to earth, heart-tugging story.

This book lost the spark the first two books in this series had. Some parts from the first the book were reciprocated (Patience earlier life story) and I felt like that wasn't really needed. Also, Patience and Dan conflict was very hot and cold through out the whole story.
Trigger Warnings: death (parents and children), blood, childbirth, racial slurs, war, prison, and animal death

I didn’t read the 2nd book in this series, and have totally forgotten the first, except remembering that I loved it.

This had endearing characters and it is very easy to read. I really like the authors style of writing.

She was able to show both sides of those who were for the war or rather for defending their country and those who were against it. I didn’t feel she forced her ideas but let the reader decide which moral high ground was the right one in their mind.

I will go back and read book 2 eventually :)
