Thin as a piece of paper! Characters hardly developed. . . . even settings were skimpy. I usually like Cook "ok" but this one stretched my patience. So glad it goes back to the library, not my bookshelf!

This is my first Claire Cook novel. It was like a day trip to the beach. It was refreshing to read about a single mom. I especially enjoyed the cultural information about Costa Rica. Her description made me want to book my next vacation. However, the ending left me disappointed. There was too much unsaid between the last two chapters.

Quick, easy, nice, sometimes funny.

Good summer read. I think this book would be great for a woman newly out of a relationship to read.

Pretty good - plot was well-developed. I didn't like the ending - seemed too tidy for me. The "lessons learned" were short and sweet. Entertaining for long drives though.

I would actually give this book 3.5 stars. I've read worse, but I've most certainly read better as well.

Umm no.

1. I didn't care for any of the characters. I was going to say that Cynthia was my favorite because she was more of a comedic relief, but a more accurate reason is that she was just a little more tolerable than the rest.

2. Jill was... a lot. Jill was a lot. I understand that she has a right to feel the way she does because of what she went through, but the entire story?? She was so negative that it put me in a dark headspace everytime I picked up the book. Which is probably why it took me long to read such a short one.

3. The synopsis and cover are DECEIVING! They make you think that it's a beach story and it gives off summer vibes. Nay nay. Out of 237 pages, she doesn't even make the decision to go to Costa Rica until page 167.

Cute mindless chick lit! Fit my mood perfectly and I flew through it.

I listened to, rather than read, this one. The reader annoyed me, in particular her voice for one of the characters was so haughty (which fit the character) to the point of obnoxiousness. She also mispronounced the classic Beach Boys's song "Kokomo."

As for the story, it was, well, fine. It's about travel, which made me want to travel. It's about putting the needs of your family first, often at your own expense/detriment. It's about learning how to do both and taking care of yourself so that you can take care of your family. It made me want to do all that. It made me want to be a phone operator or open my own group travel business.

But I found it obnoxious at times. The main character accepts that she has to give up so much because of the cards she's been dealt, but it was a bit too much whining. I could have put that aside, though, had the ending not been completely abrupt. I felt like it all just tied up in a neat bow way too quickly... maybe I missed something but there it was.
